Lito Adiwang, Jeremy Miado root for Joshua Pacio in world title quest at ONE 166: Qatar

By BJPENN.COM Staff - February 25, 2024

Former foes Lito Adiwang and Jeremy Miado have found themselves united in a common cause — rallying behind Filipino compatriot Joshua Pacio.

Joshua Pacio

Pacio challenges Jarred Brooks for the ONE Strawweight MMA World Title in a rematch at ONE 166: Qatar. This monumental event emanates live from the majestic Lusail Sports Arena on March 1.

The initial clash between the two warriors took place in December 2022, captivating fans from the first bell to the last.

In a closely contested battle, Brooks emerged victorious by unanimous decision. He also snatched the belt from Pacio’s grasp.

However, adversity has a unique way of revealing true character. Adiwang is confident that Pacio has what it takes to bounce back stronger.

“Joshua was so focused on Jarred’s wrestling that he forgot to attack him and utilize his own strength,” Pacio’s former teammate said.

“I feel like Joshua lacked a bit of push in his attacks in that fight. If we add that up, I believe he’ll take the win.”

Miado aligns himself with Adiwang’s observations regarding Pacio’s performance in the first meeting.

“I felt like he was a bit gun-shy in that fight. He was so focused on defending Brooks’ takedowns that he had fewer strikes than expected,” Miado said.

Adiwang believes that with a few strategic adjustments, Pacio has the potential to prevail over Brooks.

“The strength and advantage of Joshua is how he improves in every rematch. He really studies his opponent’s moves with intent, and that will be the key in this rematch,” Adiwang said.

“For sure, he knows how strong Jarred is now, he knows the precarious positions he has to avoid, and I expect his game to show up this time.”

Joshua Pacio pegged to KO Jarred Brooks by Lito Adiwang, Jeremy Miado

Looking ahead to the rematch, Lito Adiwang expects a stronger and more determined Joshua Pacio stepping inside the Circle.

“If Joshua got the proper training and adjustments for this fight, Joshua’s taking that belt home. I see him knocking out Jarred Brooks,” he said.

While Adiwang envisions a hungrier Pacio, Jeremy Miado takes it a step further with a bold prediction.

“The Jaguar” anticipates Pacio going all-out in the rematch, foreseeing a knockout victory with a well-executed head kick.

“Joshua has already faced him, so I expect that he’s already adjusted to Brooks’ game. I feel like his adjustment will come from his offense. I think there’s a big chance he knocks out Brooks with a head kick,” Miado said.
