Nico Carrillo to lock horns with Saemapetch at ONE Fight Night 23

By BJPENN.COM Staff - May 1, 2024

Excitement is brewing as top-ranked contenders Nico Carrillo and Saemapetch Fairtex gear up to face each other in a thrilling bantamweight Muay Thai showdown.

Nico Carrillo

This happens at ONE Fight Night 23 on Prime Video. The event airs live in U.S. primetime from Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, on July 5.

As of late, Carrillo has been making waves with his dominant performances in ONE Championship.

“King of the North” has shown no mercy in the ring. He dispatched Muangthai PK Saenchai and former divisional titleholder Nong-O Hama in his last two outings.

His meteoric rise has cemented his status as the #1-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender, and he is hungry for more.

The 25-year-old sees his upcoming bout with Saemapetch as a stepping stone. After all, it could lead to a shot at ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan Haggerty.

“I’m not chasing names, I’m chasing gold. I am there to be the champion and Haggerty’s the one with the gold,” he told Sky Sports.

The Scottish warrior will surely have his opportunity to vie for the 26 pounds of gold if he triumphs over Saemapetch.

However, he’ll likely have to bide his time since Haggerty is gearing up for his own title defense against flyweight kickboxing king Superlek Kiatmoo9 at ONE 168: Denver on September 6.

On the opposing side of the ring stands Saemapetch Fairtex.

With a reputation as one of Thailand’s top talents, the #4-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender brings a wealth of experience and ferocity to the table.

Fresh off a knockout victory against Mohamed Younes Rabah this past February, Saemapetch enters this clash with a hunger to solidify his own championship aspirations at Nico Carrillo’s expense.
