Fourth-ranked featherweight MMA star Shamil Gasanov is under no illusions when it comes to the test that awaits him at ONE Fight Night 26: Lee vs. Rasulov.

“The Cobra” meets Halil “No Mercy” Amir on Friday, December 6, inside Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium, in a pivotal bout as both men look to continue climbing the division.

Following the first loss of his professional career, Gasanov has accumulated consecutive wins to reinforce his positioning in the top five. With that said, he knows Amir is dying to take his place. He’s aware of the Turk’s abilities. But the Russian star is confident his preparation will lead him to victory.

“[Amir is] a big guy, an excellent striker, and a southpaw. His wrestling is solid, too. He’s good in all aspects,” Gasanov said.

“Every opponent is dangerous in their own way. Halil is no exception. He brings his own set of challenges. What more can I say? He’s dangerous in every area – wrestling, striking, you name it. We’ll just have to figure out the right approach.”

Shamil Gasanov hunting ONE World Title opportunity in 2025

Shamil Gasanov has been working his way into the World Title picture for two years. And he believes he is one win away from being next in line for the ONE featherweight MMA crown.

With reigning king Tang Kai set to defend the gold against Akbar Abdullaev at ONE Fight Night 27 in January, “The Cobra” aims to leave no doubt about his credentials by defeating Amir this week.

“Yes, my goal now is to beat Halil and then fight for the belt,” Gasanov said.

“The other guys don’t interest me anymore because everyone in the top five was offered a fight with me, and they all stayed quiet.”
