Vitor Belfort has an interesting idea for his first ONE Championship fight
Vitor Belfort is the latest high profile free agent to sign with Singapore-based martial arts powerhouse ONE Championship. This exciting news was announced by ONE CEO Chatri Sityodtong on Thursday evening.
“BREAKING NEWS: I am thrilled to announce that UFC Legend Vitor Belfort is now a ONE Championship athlete! A former UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion, Vitor holds the record for the most KOs in UFC history as well as the 2nd most finishes. #WeAreONE” Sityodtong announced on Twitter.
At the moment, it’s not clear who Vitor Belfort will fight in his ONE debut. That being said, he’s got a very interesting idea for his first fight in the ONE cage.
In addition to promoting mixed martial arts bouts, ONE Championship regularly promotes Muay Thai and kickboxing fights. The promotion has also promoted a boxing match between Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Iran Diaz.
Vitor Belfort is hoping to take advantage of the company’s versatile approach.
“One fight that I’d really like, I told Chatri [Sityodtong] I’d really like to put on this fight, is me vs. Roy Jones Jr. So Roy, wherever you are, I want to come challenge you for a boxing match — but with this condition. I’m going to be able to dirty box with you.
“I won’t be able to kick you, but I will be able to dirty box with you. I’m going to be in your face the whole time so it’s going to be a different boxing match. So that would be a very fun thing to do.”
