What’s Next for Marat Grigorian After ONE Friday Fights 92?

By BJPENN.COM Staff - December 25, 2024

ONE Friday Fights 92: Sitthichai vs. Shadow capped off a tremendous 2024 for ONE Championship. For #2-ranked featherweight kickboxing contender Marat Grigorian, the year couldn’t have ended better.

The striking great scored a second-round TKO win over surging star Abdelali Zahidi in featherweight kickboxing action. The bout featured prominently on Friday, December 20, inside Bangkok, Thailand’s iconic Lumpinee Stadium.

That stunning victory solidified the Armenian’s position in the division’s upper echelon. Grigorian has been a mainstay in the weight class’s top five since his arrival in the promotion in 2020.

Grigorian has put the disappointment of his loss to Superbon behind him. In his most recent performance, he looked sharper than ever against an extremely dangerous and unorthodox striker at ONE Friday Fights 92.

The 33-year-old now appears to be on the verge of another shot at the World Title. However, he’ll need to be patient.

In the meantime, Grigorian could seek out fresh competition, such as Japanese ace Masaaki Noiri. Alternatively, he might consider facing Liu Mengyang, who just defeated Noiri at ONE Friday Fights 92.

In a thriving division like featherweight kickboxing, there is no shortage of hungry contenders eager for their chance. Grigorian won’t have to search far for his next opponent.

Could Marat Grigorian challenge for the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title in 2025?

Kickboxing legend Marat Grigorian has reaffirmed his place near the top of the featherweight kickboxing hierarchy, and his dreams of becoming a World Champion remain alive.

A second-round knockout of Abdelali Zahidi at ONE Friday Fights 92 showcased Grigorian’s status as one of the world’s elite strikers. However, if he’s aiming for a World Title shot, he may need to wait.

For now, interim titleholder Superbon is scheduled to face featherweight Muay Thai king Tawanchai in the main event of ONE 170.
