Scott Coker discusses Paul Daley – Michael Page scuffle, is interested in having them fight
On Friday evening, in the main event of Bellator 179, British bomber Paul Daley had the opportunity to spoil the Bellator debut of former UFC welterweight title challenger Rory MacDonald, and set himself up for a shot at the winner of Bellator NYC’s Douglas Lima vs. Lorenz Larkin title fight. Regrettably for Daley and his British fans, MacDonald was simply too much. The Canadian star locked up a choke for the win in the second round.
Just moments after his loss, a clever Daley shifted gears and planted the seed for his next fight by engaging in a near-brawl with fellow British striker Michael Page in the stands.
This fight, of course, was already one fans wanted to see. Now that the two have almost come to blows outside the cage, that’s truer than ever.
At the Bellator 179 post-fight press conference, Bellator boss Scott Coker was asked about this possibility. Though he admitted he hasn’t given it a ton of thought just yet, he assured that he’ll make it happen if both guys want it.
“I think that’s a fight people want to see; I think it’s a fight both those guys want to see,” he said (via MMAJunkie.com). “And if they want to throw down, we’ll put it together.”
“This is something that just happened,” he said of their scuffle. “Like I said, I’ll have to go back and talk to both of them, but if they both tell me that want to do it, we’re going to do it.”
Coker then suggested that this collision of British stars could be big enough to speed up Bellator’s return to the UK.
“I think that [fight] deserves to be here, and maybe we wouldn’t wait so long to come back this time,” he said.
