UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley took aim at several bantamweights during the UFC 299 press conference. O’Malley is set to headline UFC 299 on Saturday in Miami against Vera in a fight he’s the betting favorite in. However, during today’s press conference O’Malley took the time to blast a couple of other fighters, including former opponent Petr Yan and No. 1 contender Merab Dvalishvili.

This weekend, we’re set to see a couple of really important bantamweight collisions at UFC 299. UFC lightweight contender Michael Chandler wasn’t a fan of Conor McGregor’s faceoff with Petr Yan. As of now, ‘Iron’ and ‘The Notorious’ are currently awaiting their fight date. Earlier this year, Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler coached the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter against one another. The hope was that the two lightweights would eventually clash in late 2023.

Petr Yan is interested in running it back with Aljamain Sterling. Yan and Sterling have a history as the two first met at UFC 259 in March of 2021 as the Russian was defending his bantamweight title for the first time. Yan had success early on as he dropped Sterling and was outstriking him. However, in the fourth round, he threw a knee to Sterling’s head while he was on the ground and was DQ’d and lost his belt.

Aljamain Sterling believes Petr Yan was overrated and overhyped by the UFC and MMA fans. Yan is the former UFC bantamweight champion and entered his first title defense against Aljamain Sterling as a sizeable betting favorite. The fight ended in controversial fashion as Sterling won the contest by DQ as a result of Yan throwing an illegal knee. After that, the Russian won the interim belt by decision as he beat Cory Sandhagen but has since lost three straight fights as he lost to Sterling in the rematch, Sean O’Malley and Merab Dvalishvili.

UFC bantamweight contender Rob Font wants a former champion upon his return. The bantamweight has been out of the cage since his clash with Adrian Yanez at UFC 287 earlier this month. Heading into the contest, Font was riding a two-fight losing streak, having been defeated by Jose Aldo and Marlon Vera in recent octagon appearances. However, he ended his losing streak with a statement victory earlier this month.
