Jackson was fighting in just his second UFC fight, as the Las Vegas-based promotion bought his contract after he had one fight in WFA. In his promotional debut, he beat Marvin Eastman by KO to get a title shot against Liddell.

Although Rampage Jackson’s purse wasn’t a ton for his UFC 71 title fight, he had a unique pay-per-view clause in his deal that the WFA put in, which the UFC had to absorb. Due to that, Jackson got a good chunk of all the pay-per-view buys as he says he made $7 million for that fight.

“Imma tell you what they did though, what helped me out later though, they (WFA) gave me a crazy pay-per-view deal because they knew they wasn’t gonna do pay-per-view and then Dana White, the UFC, they bought my contract. So, when I fought Chuck, they had to give me (PPV points). I made like millions just off the pay-per-view… I made about seven million off the Chuck Liddell fight… My first time even telling anybody over the pay-per-view. But then, they figured out that my pay-per-view was crazy, so my next fight, when I fought Dan Henderson, was on TV. They didn’t want to give me pay-per-view,” Jackson said on his podcast.

Rampage Jackson says his contract ended up being changed without him knowing, as he doesn’t know if his manager was paid off or missed something, but he didn’t come close to getting that much of a pay-per-view again. But, he was thrilled to make $7 million along with his fight purse to face Liddell.

Jackson scored a first-round knockout over Liddell to become the new UFC light heavyweight champion. He ended up defending the belt against Dan Henderson but lost the belt in his next fight to Forrest Griffin.

Rampage Jackson is 38-14 in his MMA career and last fought in December of 2019 when he was knocked out by Fedor Emelianenko. In his career, he holds notable wins over Lyoto Machida, Wanderlei Silva, and King Mo among others.
