Money equals power, if that is the case then Conor McGregor is the most powerful man in the UFC. Yes, he’s not defended a title. Yes, he hasn’t fought in the Octagon since November of 2016, but to rattle off those facts is to miss the point. He hasn’t done those things because he simply doesn’t have to. He defies all the laws — whether actual or forced onto MMA by the fans — that govern any other fighter. He’s earned this leverage by earning more for himself and his company than anyone ever before him. It’s those reasons why Randy Couture thinks the man absolutely deserves whatever he’s asking for. “[Conor McGregor]’s the poster child for why we need the amendment for Mixed Martial Arts. It will be interesting to see if he comes back to MMA. There’s been a lot of rumors and a lot of talk. Has he been stripped of both his titles? Is he gonna come back and fight again? What’s gonna happen? Who’s he gonna fight? And the big question, what’s he gonna get paid after just getting paid 100 million dollars for a boxing match, even though it was just an exhibition and not for a title? What’s he gonna get paid the next time that he comes back and fights in MMA under the UFC moniker? Why would he expect to get paid any less than he got for boxing? I can guarantee you they are not gonna give him that kind of money. So again, why? What’s the difference? Where is the flaw here?”

On July 7, in the main event of the UFC 226, UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will return to his former haunts in the heavyweight division, where he’ll battle reigning champion Stipe Miocic. Ahead of this fight, many of the game’s top fighters and analysts have weighed in, making their predictions one way or the other. One of the latest to do so is former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Randy Couture. In his opinion, this a winnable fight for Cormier, particularly if he’s able to lean on his Olympic-level wrestling.

Wednesday afternoon, the MMA community was forever changed as several high profile fighters including former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre, top ranked UFC middleweight Tim Kennedy, and former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, along with several others, announced the formation of the Mixed Martial Arts Athletes Association. Prior to the formation of the Mixed Marital Arts Athletes Association however, former UFC champion Randy Couture, as well as several other fighters, united to form the Mixed Martial Arts Fighters Association, which has similar goals to the MMAAA, but spans across all MMA promotions, not just the UFC.

Recently, former UFC welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre left MMA fans stunned as he revealed that he was officially a free agent in the MMA world. The news came just over a week after St-Pierre informed MMA fans that news regarding his potential return to the Octagon would be coming in ‘just a few weeks’. Following St-Pierre’s announcement, the UFC brass was quick to release a statement in which they refuted St-Pierre’s claims of being a free agent. ‘Rush’ has remained in Las Vegas, while reports of his potential return at UFC 206 against Michael Bisping have continued to circulate despite his claims that he is a free agent.

Georges St-Pierre may be in for the biggest fight of his life and it won’t even be close to taking place in the Octagon. On Monday, the former UFC welterweight kingpin announced on The MMA Hour that he was a free agent after his legal team terminated his contract with the UFC. Later that day, the UFC released a statement saying that St-Pierre was in fact still under contract with them.
