UFC rankings updated after TUF Finale and UFC 213 – Nate Diaz climbing the ranks once again
The UFC rankings have been updated following their two events from last week that went down in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On Friday, The Ultimate Fighter 25 Finale took place with former WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje making his UFC debut against Michael Johnson. The two fought in a thrilling war where Gaethje was able to power through some of Johnson’s big shots and eventually scored a second round TKO victory. The win secured Gaethje a place on the lightweight rankings, establishing himself at #6, right behind Nate Diaz who moved up a spot to #5. Interestingly, Diaz has not fought since August of last year where he lost to Conor McGregor at UFC 202 in a welterweight contest. Diaz last fought in the lightweight division against Michael Johnson in December 2015 where he won by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Johnson dropped four spots after losing to Gaethje, now sitting at #9.
Alistair Overeem now sits at the #1 spot in the UFC heavyweight division after his UFC 213 win over Fabricio Werdum. Overeem won by unanimous decision and sent Werdum down a spot in the rankings to #2.
