Raul Rosas Jr. details the illness that forced him to withdraw from UFC Mexico City
Raul Rosas Jr. is detailing the illness that forced him to withdraw from UFC Mexico City.
UFC Mexico City took place this past weekend, on Saturday, February 24th, at the Arena CDMX in Mexico City, Mexico.
On the ticket was a bantamweight bout between Raul Rosas Jr. (8-1 MMA) and Ricky Turcios (12-3 MMA).
Rosas Jr., at 19, most recently fought and defeated Terrence Mitchell (14-4 MMA) by TKO last September. Raul signed on with the UFC when he was just 17 years old, making him this youngest fighter to sign with the promotion in the history of the company.
Turcios last fought Kevin Natividad (9-4 MMA) in November of 2022, winning via split decision.
It was ‘El Nino Problema’ who ultimately withdrew from the bout just minutes before the scheduled walkouts on Saturday.
In an ‘Instagram‘ story, Raul Rosas Jr. explained why he withdrew from the UFC Mexico City fight:
“Sorry to everyone who was waiting for my performance. I was sick all day with dizziness, light headed, & cough. I tried my best to recover to go out and perform still and couldn’t. Got wrapped, warmed up, did everything I could to shake it off but felt like sh*t. If (you know) me (you know I) wouldn’t pull out just cuz. I hated making that decision but i had to do it. If you want to make another story in your head that’s cool. I’ll be back soon tho god bless you all.”
UFC CEO Dana White made the announcement that the fight between Rosas Jr. and Turcios had been rescheduled to this coming weekend, Saturday, March 2nd in Las Vegas.
It was the 30-year-old Turcios that disputed White’s claim, advising they would not be fighting in Vegas this weekend.
As of this writing, a bout between Raul Rosas Jr. and Ricky Turcios is still appearing on the main card for UFC Vegas 87.
With UFC Vegas 87 only days away, it’s very uncertain if we’ll see the two bantamweights compete.
Do you think Rosas Jr. did the right thing in walking away from UFC Mexico City?
