UFC Orlando Results: Brian Kelleher defeats Renan Barao

A bantamweight scrap between former division champion Renan Barao and Brian Kelleher served as the featured bout of tonight’s UFC on FOX 28 prelims in Orlando.

Round one begins and Kelleher presses forward quickly. Barao catches him with a nice inside low kick. Brian replies with a kick of his own. Kelleher comes forward with a left hand. Barao ducks under the strike and then circles out. Brian with a kick to the body of Renan. Barao misses with a body kick. Kelleher keeps searching for a big left hand. Barao catches his attention with a hard low kick and then another. Those are nasty kicks from the former Brazilian champ. Kelleher moves in and lands a right hand. Barao decides to clinch and the fighters trade knees along the fence. Barao is looking for a takedown but Brian switches the position and lands an elbow. The referee steps in and tells the fighters to break. Kelleher rushes after Barao with punches. He lands a big right hand that sends Renan to the canvas. Barao pops right back up to his feet and then presses Kelleher against the cage. Both men are throwing knees in the clinch position. Kelleher drops down for a double leg takedown attempt. Barao defends nicely and the horn sounds to end round one.

Round two begins and the fighters tie up early. Barao pushes Kelleher against the cage. Brian quickly reverses the position. The fighters break and Barao lands a nice combination. Kelleher responds with a good kick to the body. Brian eats a low kick and then shoots in for a takedown. Barao defends the shot but Kelleher has him pressed up against the cage. The fighters exchange knees and short punches from the position. Kelleher goes low and scores a double leg takedown. Barao quickly scrambles back up to his feet but Kelleher still has him pressed against the cage. Just under two minutes remain in round two. The referee steps in and calls for action. Barao with a combination. Brian replies with a left kick. He shoots in and presses Barao back up against the cage. Renan switches the position and works in a knee. Less than a minute remains. The fighters continue to work in the clinch. Barao looks for a trip but cannot secure the takedown. Kelleher takes dominant position and works in a knee. The referee steps in and breaks the fighters up. The horn sounds to end round two.

Round three begins and both men start off quickly with punches. Barao attempts a flying knee that misses the mark. Kelleher with a right hand over the top. He lands a left hand and then just misses with a spinning back fist. Brian shoots in for a takedown but Barao shows off his impressive sprawling ability. Barao misses with a right hand. He throws a follow up left but eats a jab from Kelleher. Brian is walking Barao down now. He throws another spinning back fist that partially connects. Barao with a hard low kick. The fighters clinch and Barao lands a nice uppercut. Both men are throwing bombs now. Kelleher with an uppercut and Barao replies with a stiff left. Kelleher shoots in and presses Barao against the cage. Renan breaks free and then lands a right hand over the top. Kelleher replies with a spinning back fist followed by a right hand. Renan is hurt. Kelleher with an uppercut. Barao is in all sorts of trouble. Barao with a kick to the body. Brian takes it and walks forward with some big shots of his own. He lands a massive left. Barao is on wobbly legs. Anther left and the horn sounds to save Renan and spell and end to the fight.
