The official weigh-ins for UFC 266 took place on Friday in Las Vegas and all 26 of the 26 fighters scheduled to compete have made weight. In the main event, UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski puts his belt on the line when he takes on Brian Ortega. Volkanovski stepped onto the scale at 144.5lbs while Ortega weighed in at 144lbs, so their title fight is official. Similarly, the co-main event is official as both UFC women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko and challenger Lauren Murphy both successfully made weight. Shevchenko stepped onto the scales at 124lbs while Murphy weighed in at 125lbs as the UFC 266 co-main event is now official.

Din Thomas has called out Nick Diaz for requesting a swap from welterweight to middleweight just days before his fight against Robbie Lawler. It was reported earlier in the week that Diaz, who has been known to make waves during fight week before, had asked the UFC to change his fight versus Lawler from 170 pounds to 185 pounds. It appears as if Lawler obliged, meaning the change was confirmed for UFC 266.

Diaz and Lawler will meet in a rematch 17 years after they first fought at UFC 47 in 2004, where Diaz scored a KO over a young Lawler. All these years later and these two are now set to rematch this Saturday night at UFC 266 in Las Vegas. Originally, the fight was set to take place in the welterweight division. But as we draw closer to the fight, Diaz now wants the fight to take place in the middleweight division. Remember, Diaz hasn’t fought since 2015 against Anderson Silva and that fight was at middleweight. The last time that Diaz fought at welterweight was way back in 2013 and he apparently doesn’t want to cut weight again, according to UFC president Dana White when speaking to reporters this week.

For Lawler, he is currently riding a four-fight losing skid and he has lost five of his last six fights overall. At age 39 and turning 40 years old in 2022, there have been some suggestions that this could be the final time we see Lawler step into the Octagon, particularly if he loses to Diaz. But as far as Lawler goes, he has no plans on retiring anytime soon, and in fact, he is incredibly excited about fighting Diaz once again. Speaking to TMZ Sports, Lawler said it’s “not possible” that he will retire after this fight.
