Rodtang “more than ready” to fight Takeru at ONE 172

By BJPENN.COM Staff - December 19, 2024

Former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Japanese ace Takeru Segawa are finally set to do battle. And “The Iron Man” believes this is the perfect time for the icons to collide.

The duo will throw down in a five-round flyweight kickboxing super-fight at ONE 172 on Sunday, March 23, inside Japan’s legendary Saitama Super Arena.

Both men have wind under their sails with recent victories. Rodtang dominated Denis Puric in the summer in kickboxing action. He then returned to Muay Thai this past November, outworking Jacob Smith at ONE 169.

Meanwhile, Takeru outgunned Thant Zin in a thrilling kickboxing war this past September to earn the first win of his ONE stint. So, the Thai feels the timing of this clash couldn’t be better.

“For the fight where Takeru came back to the win column and I also won the last fight too, I think it’s the right time for both of us to collide. And I want to fight Takeru because we had a press conference once but unfortunately, I had an injury, and the match had to be canceled,” Rodtang said.

“Now I think it’s time for us to face each other. I’m more than ready to fight him.”

Rodtang promises to make weight for Takeru super-fight

It’s no secret that weight has been an issue for former ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

His recent failures to make the flyweight limit have seen fans grow increasingly concerned with him. It also cost him the division’s Muay Thai crown at ONE 169 despite his best efforts to make championship weight.

“The Iron Man” is turning over a new leaf, though. He wants nothing to compromise the most sought-after bout of his career. So, he promises to make weight at ONE 172.

“I will make sure I don’t miss it for sure, because I’ve been waiting for the opportunity to fight with Takeru for a long time,” Rodtang said.

“And when I finally got the chance to fight with him, I thought I had to overcome every obstacle in my way in order to fight with him.”
