It has been nearly a year since former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has fought in the UFC Octagon.

For fans of Rousey, good news was released today by MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani. It sounds like the former champion may be making her way back into the Octagon at UFC’s New Years Eve event on December 30th, UFC 207.

Helwani tweeted on Tuesday, “A nug before I sign off for Yom Kippur: looking more + more like Rousey’s return will be finalized this wk. Perhaps v. soon. 12/30 x Nunes.”

Rousey last fought in November of 2015 against Holly Holm in the main event of UFC 193. Rousey went in with a 12-0 professional MMA record, finishing every opponent she fought. The MMA world was shaken up when Holm defeated Rousey by knockout in the second round of their fight.

Prior to the fight against Holm, Rousey had stated that she would be taking time off from competition to film some movie projects. Rousey’s injuries from the fight with Holm definitely held her to her break from fighting with nursing her injuries.

The women’s bantamweight division has been unstable since Rousey was dethroned. Now, Amanda Nunes holds the belt and Rousey may get her chance to claim gold in the division once again.

Nunes last fought in July against Miesha Tate, who held the belt at the time of their fight. From the moment the bell rang for the first round, Nunes established her game and was able to hurt Tate with strikes and then submit “Cupcake” with a rear-naked choke to claim the UFC women’s bantamweight title.
