VIDEO | Roy Nelson reveals what he said to John McCarthy following kick in the butt
Veteran UFC heavyweight Roy Nelson made headlines yesterday evening in Brazil for all the wrong reasons.
Following his knockout victory over former UFC heavyweight title challenger Antonio Silva, an irate Nelson decided to flip-off and then kick referee John McCarthy for not stopping the contest earlier.
At the UFC Fight Night 95 post-fight press conference Nelson revealed a conversation he had with Big John backstage following the fight:
“We had a conversation in the cage and I was like, ‘Dude, he was knocked out.’ He was like, ‘No he wasn’t.’ I’m like, dude, I know what a knockout is. I knock people out. That is what I do for a living. I know what a knockout is. Just because you don’t like, just because a guy didn’t roll his eyes in the back of his head or shake or something. It was just one of those things. For me, I just did not want to hurt Bigfoot more than I had to.”
“Big Country” had flattened Antonio Silva with an uppercut late in the fight’s second-round and then promptly followed up with some ground and pound to secure the win.

After referee John McCarthy finally stepped in to call a stop the contest, Roy Nelson not only flipped-off the long time official but also gave McCarthy a kick in the butt out of frustration as he felt the bout should have been stopped sooner.
