ONE 165 Results: Shinya Aoki submits John Lineker in Round 1 (Video)

A lightweight fight between MMA veterans John Lineker and Shinya Aoki took place at tonight’s ONE 165 event at the Ariake Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Aoki was originally slated to face former UFC fighter Sage Northcutt (12-3 MMA) at tonight’s event; however, ‘Super Sage‘ pulled out at the last minute due to corner issues, which led to Lineker stepping in.

Shinya Aoki (47-11 MMA) entered tonight’s contest looking to snap a two-fight losing skid. The 40-year-old veteran had previously suffered back-to-back TKO losses to Yoshihiro Akiyama and Saygid Izagakhmaev respectively. Prior to those setbacks, ‘Tobikan Jūdan’ had put together a four-fight winning streak.

Meanwhile, John Lineker (37-10 MMA) had most previously competed at September’s ONE Fight Night 14 event in Singapore, where he picked up a unanimous decision win over Stephen Loman. ‘Hands of Stone’ had gone 6-1 with 1 no-contest over his previous seven fights under the ONE Championship banner.

Tonight’s ‘Lineker vs. Aoki’ bout proved to be a one-sided contest. Shinya Aoki was able to take John Lineker down to the canvas in the early moments of the opening round and quickly proceeded to move to full mount. From there, the Japanese jiu-jitsu ace rained down some heavy ground and pound which forced Lineker to give up his back. Aoki quickly sinched in a rear-naked choke which forced the tap.
