EXCLUSIVE | Santiago Ponzinibbio believes finish of Neil Magny will prove he's ready for title shot
Tom Taylor - September 20, 2018
In 2017, Argentina’s Santiago Ponzinibbio burst into welterweight title contention with a decision defeat of Nordine Taleb, an 82-second knockout of Gunnar Nelson, and a thrilling decision triumph over “Platinum” Mike Perry. Unfortunately, he’s yet to fight in 2018 thanks to a serious hand injury that ultimately required surgery. While 2018 has not been particularly kind to Santiago Ponzinibbio thus far, things are definitely looking up. With his surgery in the rear-view and his health back to 100%, he’s been booked for a high-stakes showdown with long-time contender Neil Magny. And that’s not where the good news ends. The fight will go down in the main event of the UFC’s first-ever trip to Ponzinibbio’s homeland of Argentina.

Santiago Ponzinibbio calls out Rafael dos Anjos, dos Anjos fires back
Tom Taylor - August 12, 2018
In a recent interview with Combate, surging Argentine welterweight contender Santiago Ponzinibbio called for a fight with former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. It’s his hope that he and dos Anjos can fight in the main event of the UFC’s November 17 debut in Argentina. “Want to fight in November? Fight me,” Santiago Ponzinibbio said of dos Anjos. “November 17, in South America, let’s do the main fight. Stop being loose and [not] fighting. You have to fight. I do not understand why he’s running out of the fight, being able to put on a big show in South America, near his country. Let’s make a historic event, the first time [the UFC comes to Argentina], a very good opportunity. I do not understand what happens to him. [It’s a] good fight, I can not understand. The guy is running from the fight and I do not know why.”

Drake Riggs - March 23, 2018
After several different reports and mixed potential matchups between both the UFC Chile and Liverpool cards, it seems things have finally been settled. For Liverpool, after some intense back and forth between the eventual headliner, Darren Till, and Kamaru Usman it looked like they may end up being the two to fight each other thus figuring things out for Liverpool but not Chile. However, we first discovered the main event for Liverpool which was not Till vs Usman but Till vs two-time title challenger, Stephen Thompson.
Kamaru Usman claims Santiago Ponzinibbio turned down UFC Chile fight with him
Tom Taylor - March 23, 2018
Yesterday evening, our own insider extraordinaire Chris Taylor reported that the UFC’s upcoming debut in Chile will feature a welterweight showdown between ranked contenders Santiago Ponzinibbio and Neil Magny. Apparently, however, the card nearly got a welterweight showdown between Ponzinibbio and Kamaru Usman instead. At least, that’s what Usman is claiming. In a Thursday evening Twitter post, Usman divulged that he’d been offered a fight with Ponzinibbio, and that he had accepted this offer. He then claimed that Ponzinibbio turned down the fight.

The welterweight division is finally getting some fights at the top booked once again. Santiago Ponzinibbio calls out Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone
Tom Taylor - February 19, 2018
Not long ago, Argentine welterweight Santiago Ponzinibbio made an exciting callout of two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. “I’d like to fight Thompson,” Ponzinibbio told MMABrasil.com.br. “I think he’s a great striker, and I want to be the best striker in the division, so I’ve been showing [my skills]. I’ve got six consecutive wins, three by first-round knockout. The last one was a decision, but I’ve been showing good fights, with good exchanges of blows, trying to work [my fights] standing. So I believe I have the resources to beat [Wonderboy], and we would put on a very good fight… a fight that would stay in UFC history.”
Santiago Ponzinibbio thinks fight with "Wonderboy" would go down in UFC history
Tom Taylor - February 13, 2018
Argentina’s Santiago Ponzinibbio is riding one of the best win-streaks in the stacked UFC welterweight division, having bested his last six foes – men like Nordine Taleb, Gunnar Nelson, and most recently, “Platinum” Mike Perry. With all of this momentum behind him, Ponzinibbio is hoping to be rewarded with a fight with two-time UFC welterweight title challenger Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson.
Santiago Ponzinibbio Strategically Calls Out Rafael dos Anjos
Justin Golightly - December 19, 2017
Santiago Ponzinibbio stared down the Mike Perry storm and came out on top on Saturday. While Perry was unranked, it was a win over an opponent that was getting a big push from the UFC’s promotional machine. After taking out the prospect, Ponzinibbio is trying to catapult himself into huge fights. Knowing a title shot may not be possible yet, he wants the next best thing: A number one contender scrap with Rafael dos Anjos to see who gets to fight the champ when he comes back from shoulder surgery. “I know the UFC might not give me [a title shot] now because Tyron Woodley has an injured shoulder, so I think they should give me Rafael dos Anjos. Rafael dos Anjos and I should fight and the winner should fight for the title. I think this is a good match. I thought it was a good fight and good performance by Rafael dos Anjos. I like the winner of this fight, it’s nothing personal with Rafael dos Anjos. I like him, he won, but he only has three fights in this division you know. He won against Tarec Saffiedine, he is an old guy. Neil Magny is tough, but Lawler is old too and not having the best moment in his career.”

VIDEO | Mike Perry and Santiago Ponzinibbio Have a Tense and Strange Staredown
Justin Golightly - December 14, 2017
We all know that controversy follows the heavy-handed Mike Perry around. He’s also no stranger to creating ridiculous sound bytes that fans love to hear and us media enjoy writing about. What happened earlier today is no different. We don’t want to hype it too much, but it could be one of the all-time greatest staredowns in MMA history. What you’re about to see between Perry and Santiago Ponzinibbio is a staredown that mystifies as well as entertains. It’s an enigma wrapped around a 7-11 burrito, washed down with Mountain Dew Code Red. If none of that made sense, then you’re ready for the video. Funny he was wearing sunglasses when he’s the one who pokes people in the eyes https://t.co/ZYFdeTit4h
