In the first five-round fight of his UFC career, Strickland used his jab to piece up Hall over the course of 25 minutes, while also mixing up power strikes and takedowns to seal the deal and pick up the biggest win of his career. With five straight victories, including a perfect 4-0 record in the UFC middleweight division, it is clear that Strickland is one of the best fighters in the world at his weight class, and he hopes to continue fighting bigger and better opponents. But for Strickland, what really makes him happy more than anything is just going in the Octagon and hurting people.

Strickland utilized a beautiful jab for five rounds as he was able to outpoint Hall and take home a unanimous decision. Though Strickland wasn’t able to get the finish over his former training partner, he dominated the fight with his striking and grappling to earn a clean sweep on the judges’ scorecards. It was the best performance of Strickland’s MMA career to date and by far the biggest win on his resume. By going in there and defeating a top-10 opponent in Hall, Strickland moves one step closer to the middleweight division’s elite.

The highly anticipated middleweight main event turned out to be a rather one sided affair. The official weigh-ins for UFC Vegas 33 took place on Friday in Las Vegas, Nevada, and we had a huge weight miss from Nicco Montano. Montano, who has struggled to make weight throughout her UFC career, came in at 143lbs for her women’s bantamweight bout against Wu Yanan. Montano has not fought in over two years and has had a string of fights scratched. The UFC has officially confirmed that this fight is off.

Earlier this week, O’Malley got a tattoo of the number ’69’ on his right shoulder, and it was tattooed by the rapper 6ix9ine himself. Although 6ix9ine is a popular rapper, he is extremely controversial for his past, which includes a felony count of use of a child in a sexual performance in 2015, in which he made sexual videos of a 13-year-olf girl. Then in 2019, he agreed to a plea deal for two years in prison after agreeing to testify against the Nine Trey gang members. In August 2020, 6ix9ine was released early from his prison term, and he is now a free man, though his checkered past still continues to haunt him.

For Strickland, he has looked quite exceptional since returning to the Octagon last year following a motorcycle accident in 2018 that left his career in question. Since making his comeback, “Tarzan” has looked absolutely phenomenal inside the Octagon with wins over Jack Marshman and Brendan Allen. Since moving up to 185lbs, Strickland appears to be a serious contender, especially now that he is not forced to cut a ton of weight in order to make welterweight.

Hall vs. Strickland is a battle between two of the top-15 ranked middleweights on the UFC roster. The fight was expected to serve as one of the five main-card bouts on the UFC 265 pay-per-view card in August, but instead, the fight was taken off that card and has now been shifted up a week. Hall and Strickland will now meet for five rounds or less in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card on July 31, according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.
