Stamp Fairtex reflects on 2024: “It was a year of learning”
Reigning ONE Atomweight MMA World Champion Stamp Fairtex was ready for a landmark year in 2024. That was up until injury struck and broke the Thai queen’s heart.
Stamp will watch as #2-ranked contender Denice Zamboanga and #4-ranked contender Alyona Rassohyna vie to become the interim champ at ONE Fight Night 27: Tang vs. Abdullaev this Friday, January 10, inside Bangkok, Thailand’s Lumpinee Stadium.
Stamp was set to defend her atomweight MMA crown at ONE 167 last June and compete at the landmark ONE 168 event in Denver, Colorado, last September. But she tore her meniscus which put her on the shelf immediately.
Using the time wisely, she’s become even more insatiable.
“This year, I spent a lot of time with myself and learned new things. It was a bad year, but not too bad because there were new things and new people to learn from. I could say it was a year of learning,” Stamp said.
“I am very disappointed to have missed both opportunities. No one wants something like this to happen because I want everyone to remember who Stamp is and why I’m so hungry for a championship.”
Stamp offers time frame for return to action
Three-sport queen Stamp Fairtex has battled the very best female athletes in the world. But she’s currently in the midst of her biggest fight: returning to the Circle.
The year ahead is all about Stamp making her way down the ramp and into the battleground once more.
The Thai superstar has earmarked a potential return date at the start of the summer. In fact, she’s eager to make up for lost time and compete across all realms to do so.
“I expect to compete in May or June. By then, everything should be in place. It may be a bit delayed, but coming back at 100 percent will definitely make my performance much better than competing while still in pain. I want to fight every three months,” Stamp said.
“I’m interested in all the rule sets right now. I feel very eager to be back in the ring and I am excited about the challenge of returning to the sports where I was once a champion.”
