Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson claims he is fighting Tyron Woodley at UFC 205 in New York
Tyron Woodley has a big target on his back after knocking out Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 over the weekend becoming the new UFC welterweight champion of the world.
UFC #1 ranked welterweight Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson was a guest on Monday’s episode of “The MMA Hour” and talked about a match with the new champion Woodley.
“Yeah, he went out there and he defeated Robbie Lawler but he took this fight and a lot of people didn’t think he deserved it in the first place. But, seconds after winning that title, already choosing his fights? Come on. I mean, who gets that? Who really gets to do that?
“I mean you’re starting to see that a lot more. It’s almost like, do the rankings really count?”
Although “Wonderboy” questioned how some big matches have recently been created, he claims that he will be fighting Woodley next.
“No matter what, I’m fighting Tyron,” Thompson claimed. “I’m fighting Tyron Woodley and it’s gonna be at Madison Square Garden. No ifs ands or buts. Come on guys. Come on UFC. Come on Tyron. You gotta give it to me.”
Although Thompson admitted that he and his team have not signed any contract to fight Woodley next, he says that his management is “definitely working on it.”
