Stipe Miocic News

For the first time in his career, Stipe Miocic is '100% happy' with his UFC pay
Tom Taylor - July 3, 2018
This Saturday, in the main event of the absurdly stacked UFC 226 card, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic will attempt to defend his title against reigning UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. From a competitive standpoint, this is far and away one of the biggest fights of Miocic’s illustrious career. According to the man himself, it’s also the biggest fights from a financial standpoint. This is good news, considering Miocic has been frustrated with his paydays in the past.

Daniel Cormier considers Stipe Miocic the best fighter he's ever fought
Tom Taylor - July 1, 2018
Forget Jon Jones, forget Alexander Gustafsson, forget Anthony “Rumble” Johnson, forget Anderson Silva. Forget Dan Henderson and Josh Barnett and Frank Mir. Of all the world-class fighters UFC light heavyweight champ Daniel Cormier has met in the cage, he considers his UFC 226 opponent, UFC heavyweight champ Stipe Miocic, to be the best of the bunch. “I think he’ll be the best,” Cormier said on the UFC 226 conference call this week (transcribed by Damon Martin for MMANytt). “He is who he is for that reason that he’s the baddest man on the planet. They call the heavyweight champ the baddest man on the planet and for a long time, guys got to have that title for a short period of time because they would get knocked off.

Stipe Miocic not interested in potentially facing Brock Lesnar soon after UFC 226
Drake Riggs - June 21, 2018
Brock Lesnar’s return to the UFC feels inevitable. The current WWE star is still under contract as a champion with the organization but his deal is apparently set to expire sooner rather than later. UFC President, Dana White has already said himself that Lesnar will indeed fight in the UFC again. It’s now just a matter of when.

Stipe Miocic explains how his family would react if he pulled Conor McGregor's Brooklyn stunt
Tom Taylor - April 18, 2018
Earlier this month, MMA superstar Conor McGregor flew to Brooklyn, New York, and ran amok inside the UFC 223 host venue. The Irishman’s rampage reached a violent crescendo when he threw a dolly threw the window a shuttle bus carrying a number of UFC 223 fighters, injuring Ray Borg and Michael Chiesa. In the wake of this event, many notable fighters have chimed in to give their take on the madness. Some, unsurprisingly, scolded McGregor severely. Others, meanwhile, were more understanding of his actions. And then there’s UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, who simply assured he’d never act the way McGregor did, because his wife and his mother would kill him if he did.

Chris Taylor - March 24, 2018
Current UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will be fighting for more than just the promotions heavyweight title when he squares off with Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 226 this July in Las Vegas. “DC” has the opportunity to join a group of fellow octagon legends in Randy Couture, BJ Penn, Conor McGregor and Georges St-Pierre who are currently the only fighters to have ever captured UFC titles in two different weight classes.

Tom Taylor - March 15, 2018
At present, UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has his crosshairs set on UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who he’ll battle in the main event of UFC 226 on July 7. As buzz surrounding the possible UFC return of WWE star Brock Lesnar continues to grow, however, Miocic is likely to get more and more questions about a potential matchup with the hulking former champion. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Miocic addressed a possible matchup with Lesnar. While Miocic gives Lesnar his due respect, he is extremely confident about his chances in this prospective showdown.

Tom Taylor - March 14, 2018
Conor McGregor isn’t the only UFC champion to star in a commercial for a major brand. Days after McGregor’s Burger King ad hit our screens, a Modelo beer commercial starring UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has begun making the rounds. Miocic’s Modelo commercial comes a few months after the UFC inked a multi-year deal with the beer company. Miocic is the first of what we can assume will be multiple fighters to star in Modelo beer ads. See the champs’s ad, which focuses on his background, in the video at the top of this post.

Coach Still Proud of 'Phenomenal' Francis Ngannou in Defeat and Promises Impressive Return
Justin Golightly - March 13, 2018
Francis Ngannou of the most severe and recent examples of how brutal MMA is and how forgetful fans are. Just before UFC 220, he was primed to be the next big thing and we were already planning mega fights with Brock Lesnar. After Stipe Miocic stifled him, it’s like he disappeared in the minds of the UFC and the public. His boxing coach Dewey Cooper vows that this won’t last long. Ngannou will learn from his mistakes and come back even better. “I got one word to describe [Francis Ngannou]: Phenomenal. We had an off night and we all felt that night, that Francis at his worst still couldn’t be stopped. That’s all I can say about that. Francis at his best won’t be defeated and him at his worst could not even be stopped. We got the best heavyweight in UFC couldn’t stop a guy who was just not at his best that night. Francis man, he’s phenomenal and he will definitely be back stronger than ever. […] Stipe was at his best and we just weren’t at our best and there will be improvement from that.”

Ahead of this fight, many of the game’s top fighters and analysts have weighed in, making their predictions one way or the other. One of the latest to do so is former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Randy Couture. In his opinion, this a winnable fight for Cormier, particularly if he’s able to lean on his Olympic-level wrestling.

Stipe Miocic: You're Going to See Daniel Cormier Get Beat Up at UFC 226
Justin Golightly - February 10, 2018
When it was announced that Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic were going to have a superfight, it was completely out of nowhere. The match-up is insane, historic, and a spectacle everyone is looking forward too. Usually, big fights like these that are also hyped up by a season of The Ultimate Fighter focuses on the marketable bad blood or insults from the other fighters. This fight most likely won’t have that, or need it. Just because Miocic is not prone to trash talk though, that doesn’t stop him from telling everyone matter-of-factly what is going to go down when they fight at UFC 226. “[Trash talk is] just too much. It’s exhausting for me. I don’t need to go out of my way. I have other things to worry about, like training, or work, the wife, or fixing the house up. I’ve got other things to worry about other than hurting someone’s feelings. I’m just a normal guy. I don’t have expensive cars or expensive clothes. I’m just me. I have a family, a baby on the way. I have a house, a mortgage to worry about. That’s all I worry about – taking care of them and making sure we’re all set.”

VIDEO | Fabricio Werdum Respects Daniel Cormier But Bets Against Him in Stipe Miocic Superfight
Justin Golightly - February 8, 2018
All of the UFC fights are basically just a countdown to Daniel Cormier’s epic encounter against UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. The same title shot that Fabricio Werdum has been clawing back to. You have to have a college degree in MMA match to figure out this one, it’s more than just any light heavyweight moving up to fight a bigger opponent. The former champ himself knows full well what it’s like to be in the cage with Miocic, who took the title away from him back at UFC 198. Despite having nothing but respect for Cormier and his skills, he thinks Stipe Miocic will walk away with the strap still on his waist. “I want to see this fight [between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic], too. Of course I want to go first, but for the business UFC, for fans this is much better. I understand this part, too. For sure I was sad before, but after talking to Dana White, I understand for the company, business is much better. I hope I’m the next one after my fight.”

Daniel Cormier Going Back to Light Heavyweight Win or Lose Against Stipe Miocic
Justin Golightly - February 3, 2018
We’ll be daydreaming about Daniel Cormier’s fight against Stipe Miocic until it gets here in July, but until then we have five months of speculation and debates. Media and fans a like are wondering what will happen if the UFC light heavyweight champion will do if he actually manages to beat Miocic for the heavyweight belt. Some predicts he’d just retire early, instead of fighting until March 2019. Instead, Cormier not only plans to keep fighting, but move immediately back down in weight. “It’s gonna suck [dropping back down]. Every time it sucks, but it’s my weight class. I owe it to the guys in the division to go back down and fight them. If Alexander Gustafsson wants a fight like he’s saying, I’ll go back down and fight him. But he should fight again, because he barely fights. I’ve fought five times since he and I fought. He’s fought twice. He needs to fight again before we fight. If I fight in July [at UFC 226], I probably won’t be able to fight until the end of the year again. So, Alex should not have been sitting for a year-and-a-half and just waiting for a title shot. That doesn’t make any sense.” — Daniel Cormier speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

VIDEO | Stipe Miocic Claims Daniel Cormier Hasn't Faced Anything Like Him Yet
Justin Golightly - February 3, 2018
We can’t talk about the upcoming superfight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic enough. It will be an historic fight and both men stand to gain an incredible notch on their record for beating the other. On his way to ending his career, Cormier plans on beating Miocic and accomplishing something even his rival Jon Jones wasn’t willing to try. However, the UFC heavyweight champion is going to do all he can to prevent that. Despite Cormier’s history at heavyweight, Miocic insists he hasn’t fought anyone quite like him yet. “You know, [Daniel Cormier] and I talked about it and stuff like that. We actually talked to each other on the phone and made sure it was the right thing for both of us. We’re both gamers. We’re here to fight but also want to make sure it was the right thing for both of us. And you know, it worked out well. [I don’t gain any less by beating Daniel Cormier]. He’s fought heavyweight before. You know, he’s a tough guy. Listen man, I’m going to go out there and do my thing. We’re going to walk out with the belt still wrapped around my waist.”

Drake Riggs - February 2, 2018
Some are calling it MMA’s first true super fight and they may very well be right. The only other time we have gotten an established champion vs champion title fight was when Georges St-Pierre took on BJ Penn at UFC 94. Yes, we did see champion vs champion when Eddie Alvarez attempted to defend his lightweight crown against featherweight champion, Conor McGregor but neither had defended their titles yet. St-Pierre and Penn had, however. GSP was the welterweight champ and Penn the lightweight champ. The end result being a win for the Canadian in dominant fashion, but this time we’re getting the big boys. UFC 226 is officially being headlined by the light heavyweight champion of the world, Daniel Cormier as he looks to take away Stipe Miocic’s heavyweight title that he just broke the record defending. The two champions had their first staredown today at the UFC Performance Institute. Check it out:

Justin Golightly - February 1, 2018
The match of the century has been booked. The UFC light heavyweight champion challenging the UFC heavyweight champion. Two of the biggest and baddest men on the planet colliding in an incredible fight that has ‘legendary’ written all over it. However, before Daniel Cormier puts on the gloves to fight Stipe Miocic, there’s going to be an entire season of The Ultimate Fighter as build up. The two will coach a cast of undefeated fighters for their chance at greatness, before they prepare for their own legacy-defining clash. These two champions can’t do it alone though, they’ll need a group of coaches to help build their teams to success. Daniel Cormier will bring along all the people who have been with him for the long haul, including former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez. Stipe Miocic will have UFC fighter James Krause, as well as GLORY kickboxer, former UFC fighter, and new ACB signee Chris Camozzi.
