Urijah Faber watched his former friend and teammate TJ Dillashaw knockout his star pupil Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of UFC 217 last night in New York. After being rocked by “No Love” late in round one, Dillashaw was able to turn the tide with a big head kick in round two. Moments later TJ would drop Cody with a punch and then put Garbrandt away with some viscous ground and pound. (Watch the finish here).

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 217, estranged former teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw finally stepped into the cage to settle their score. It was a wild one while it lasted. Though Garbrandt very nearly knocked Dillashaw out in the closing seconds of the first frame, Dillashaw bounced back in the second, putting his foe down with a head kick to capture the bantamweight crown.

Last night, in the co-main event of UFC 217, Cody Garbrandt sought to defend his title against his fiercest rival, TJ Dillashaw. Though he almost won in the first round, the iron-fisted Garbrandt ultimately found himself on the receiving end of a second-round knockout, relinquishing the title to Dillashaw in the process. Having trained with TJ for this fight. He deserved this win 👏🏽 I hope to see these guys fight multiple times #ufc217

TJ Dillashaw reclaimed the UFC bantamweight title at tonight’s UFC 217 event in New York defeating Cody Garbrandt via second-round knockout. Dillashaw was able to catch Cody with a big right hand that sent Garbrandt crashing to the canvas. From there Dillashaw would put Cody away with some brutal ground and pound. No more words need to be said about Cody Garbrandt’s upcoming fight with TJ Dillashaw. It’s amazing and it has everything you could ever want surrounding a fight. Rankings and a gold belt aside, these dudes have every reason on Earth to fight each other and we finally get to watch it happen. It seems like their peers are just as excited as the fans and all of to see these two scrap. Most of them also see Garbrandt walking out of Madison Square Garden with the UFC bantamweight title around his waist. “I’ve got ties to both of them, so it’s kind of hard. It seems like this TJ Dillashaw and Cody Garbrandt feud has been going on forever. Since the beginning, we’ve gone through the Duane Ludwig controversy, the allegations of steroid use, Dillashaw injuring another Team Alpha Male member in training, but at the beginning of this year it was all about training footage. Garbrandt claimed he knocked out Dillashaw in training and threatened to release the tape. Dillashaw called Garbrandt’s bluff and after awhile, the talk stopped. That is, until now. Just days before the two settle their differences at UFC 217, Garbrandt drops the video. This guy is a liar he said I never koed him, that there is no video! Also that he has never took PEDs and he never cheap shotted a former teammate stealing his dream from under him! The UFC had one last press conference today to promote the year’s biggest card so far. With the cast of characters contained in the triple-title fights at UFC 217 gathered together three days from bell time, it was bound to get heated even before the staredowns. Cody Garbrandt has not been shy about saying all sorts of wild things about his opponent TJ Dillashaw throughout the build up, but something he said today at the presser made a lot of people pause. Team Alpha Male’s Chris Holdsworth has not fought since May of 2014, when he defeated Chico Camus by unanimous decision. The reason for his prolonged absence has been a series of concussions. It has been widely speculated that these concussions were spurred on by a surprise knee from a former training partner: UFC 217’s TJ Dillashaw. On Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Holdsworth confirmed these rumors, admitting, at long last, that his first concussion was caused by a cheap-shot from his estranged Team Alpha Male stablemate.

With the feud between former Team Alpha Male teammates Cody Garbrandt and TJ Dillashaw, there is one particular story that claims Dillashaw ended a Team Alpha Male teammate’s career. Garbrandt claims Dillashaw hit Chris Holdsworth with a cheap shot to the back of the head during practice, badly concussing the TUF 18 season winner.

Champion Cody Garbrandt will look to defend his title against former teammate and former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw. As the two have had a long history training with each other at Team Alpha Male, Garbrandt started his professional MMA career when Dillashaw was on his way to winning the UFC title. With being able to train against the top fighter in the UFC bantamweight division, Garbrandt said he knew it was only a matter of time before he would be holding the belt.

Originally, TJ Dillashaw was expected to battled Cody Garbrandt for the UFC bantamweight title at UFC 213. Unfortunately, Garbrandt was forced out of this anticipated grudge match with a back injury, which left Dillashaw without an opponent. Having been deprived of this title fight with Garbrandt, Dillashaw then set his sights on a drop to flyweight, where he hoped to challenge dominant champion Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Unfortunately, Johnson wasn’t on board with this plan, and Dillashaw had to shift his focus back to a fight with Garbrandt.

Originally, UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt was expected to defend his title against former champion TJ Dillashaw at UFC 213. Unfortunately, Garbrandt was forced out of this anticipated bantamweight title fight with a severe back injury, and the fight was scrapped as a result. Though there was some brief discussion surrounding Dillashaw possibly dropping to flyweight for a fight with divisional champ Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, it is more recently looking like he’ll battle Garbrandt as planned. While it has long been rumored, Garbrandt recently made a clear implication that this fight with Dillashaw will go down at UFC 217 this November 4 in the New York City’s Madison Square Garden.

Former UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw’s upcoming fight remains a mystery as conflicting details continue to emerge, with no resolution on the conflict between The UFC and Demetrious Johnson to aid fight fans in making sense of the confusion. Dillashaw was initially slated to fight bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt in a highly anticipated bantamweight title fight this summer, however a back injury forced Garbrandt out of the fight. UFC President Dana White then revealed that the plan was to have Dillashaw drop down to flyweight and challenge flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson for the flyweight title in a fight that could have potentially seen Johnson set the UFC record for most successful title defenses.
