Sergei Pavlovich says UFC 295 fight against Tom Aspinall is for the "legit title"

Sergei Pavlovich doesn’t think he’s fighting for the interim heavyweight title on Saturday. Pavlovich is set to fight Tom Aspinall in the co-main event of UFC 295 from Madison Square Garden on Saturday. Originally, the card was supposed to be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. However, just over two weeks out from the event, Jones tore his pec so the promotion made an interim title fight between Pavlovich and Aspinall.

Tom Aspinall admits he wanted to quit MMA after he tore his ACL during his UFC London main event against Curtis Blaydes. Aspinall was set for his second UFC headliner spot back in July of 2022 when he took on Blaydes. It was a pivotal fight as had the Brit won he likely would have gotten a title shot. However, just 15 seconds into the fight, Aspinall blew his knee out and needed to be stretched out of the Octagon.

Tom Aspinall has taken over the No. 4 spot in the official UFC Heavyweight Rankings. It was just this past Saturday, July 22nd, that Tom Aspinall (13-3 MMA) defeated Marcin Tybura (24-8 MMA) in the heavyweight main event. In front of a hometown crowd at the O2 Arena in London, England, Aspinall KO’d Tybura at 1:13 of Round 1.

In the main event of UFC London, ranked heavyweights took center stage as Tom Aspinall was taking on Marcin Tybura. Aspinall entered the fight coming off a year away after tearing his MCL just seconds into his fight against Curtis Blaydes last July. Prior to that, the Brit was 5-0 in the UFC and had beaten the likes of Alexander Volkov and Andrei Arlovski by stoppage. Tybura, meanwhile, was on a two-fight winning streak and was 7-1 in his last eight entering his main event spot.

He was matched up against Marcin Tybura inside The O2 Arena. This one didn’t last long, as Aspinall floored Tybura in the opening frame and followed that up with ground-and-pound to finish the fight just one minute and 13 seconds in. This earned Aspinall his fifth “Performance of the Night” bonus.
