Last night, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 112, Kevin Lee scored an impressive – if controversial – submission win over Michael Chiesa. Shortly after this win, which is likely to send him careening into the UFC lightweight top-10, Lee joined a panel of Karyn Bryant, Kenny Florian, Tyron Woodley and Tony Ferguson on Fox Sports 1 to discuss the fight. It did not take long for Lee and Ferguson – who stands out as the top lightweight not named Conor McGregor – to start going at it.

Streaking lightweight contender Tony Ferguson is having a difficult time getting a fight. Luckily, he’s found a way to stay busy in the meantime. In a recent interview with MMAJunkie.com, the top lightweight announced that he will debuting as an analyst on FS1 during the UFC Fight Night 112 broadcast in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this Sunday. In this interview, Ferguson explained that he believes he’s well-fitted for work as an analyst.

Now that McGregor’s much-discussed boxing showdown with undefeated pugilist Floyd Mayweather is official, however, Ferguson has decided to offer up some props. Tony Ferguson is campaigning hard for a fight with Nate Diaz. Ferguson took an opportunity on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour to go on a verbal onslaught targeting Diaz. With all of the comments that “El Cucuy” is throwing at the Stockton scrapper, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there is some sort of incident between the two that takes place outside of the Octagon if they ever cross paths, as Diaz is no stranger to that.

With Nurmagomedov out, “El Cucuy” is still looking to solidify himself as the top UFC lightweight as the champion of the division, Conor McGregor is concentrating on getting himself a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. Earlier this month, Ferguson said on The MMA Hour that he was interested in a fight with Nate Diaz out of all the lightweight contenders and pushed on the matchup speaking on the 5ive Rounds podcast recently. Currently ranked #2 by the UFC in the lightweight division, “El Cucuy” said that he is actually doing Diaz a favor with trying to arrange the matchup as the Stockton scrapper is sitting further down the ranks at #8.

That search has led him to MMA superstar Nate Diaz. UFC lightweight veteran Edson Barboza has been on a bit of a tear recently. After being submitted by streaking contender Tony Ferguson in 2015, Barboza bounced back by rattling off three straight wins over top ranked opponents. To kick off 2016, Barboza stepped into the Octagon with former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis for a pivotal showdown at UFC 197. Barboza proved that he was more than capable of hanging with the best of the best at lightweight as he picked up a unanimous decision win over ‘Showtime’. In his very next fight, Barboza stepped into the Octagon with Gilbert Melendez for another pivotal showdown. Once again, Barboza picked up an impressive unanimous decision win, cementing his place at the top of the lightweight division.

Recently, top ranked UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov was forced out of his UFC 209 co-main event scrap with Tony Ferguson after being unable to make the lightweight title fight limit of 155 pounds. Nurmagomedov was taken to the hospital in the early hours of the morning after enduring a tremendous amount of pain. Ultimately, after Nurmagomedov was pulled from the card for being unable to compete, Tony Ferguson was also pulled from the card. While there were initially no details regarding when Nurmagomedov would be able to return to the Octagon, his father revealed during a recent interview that ‘The Eagle’ was doing “good” health-wise, and had visited several physicians. In addition, it was revealed that ‘The Eagle’ was looking to return for a title fight in August or September, after he finished his observance of Ramadan.
