Tony Ferguson wants to coach TUF against Khabib Nurmagomedov, then fight him for the interim title
Tom Taylor - December 12, 2016
Last month, in the main event of UFC 205, Irish superstar Conor McGregor knocked out Eddie Alvarez to become the UFC lightweight champion. Following the win, the Irishman reaffirmed his intention to take some time off to start a family with long-time girlfriend Dee Devlin. McGregor’s hiatus from competition, of course, leaves the lightweight division’s many contenders in a bit of an undesirable spot, without a champion to gun for. The champ’s absence is undoubtedly most frustrating for Tony Ferguson, who is currently on a nine-fight win-streak, and Khabib Nurmagomedov, who boasts a flawless, 24-0 record. Both men have done pretty much all their is to do to earn a lightweight title shot, but without an active champ, neither can have one.
Tony Ferguson is considering a drop to featherweight: I would pose a big threat
Tom Taylor - December 6, 2016
Last month, in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Mexico, Tony Ferguson earned a unanimous decision victory over former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos. With this win, which was undeniably the biggest of his career, Ferguson extended his win streak to a whopping nine straight. From there, Ferguson seemed ready for a title shot against new lightweight champ Conor McGregor, or at the very least, an interim title fight with the undefeated Khabib Nurmagomedov. Unfortunately for Ferguson, however, McGregor recently embarked on a hiatus from competition, and Nurmagomedov won’t be ready to fight until the spring.
Tony Ferguson: Conor McGregor does not want any part of me
Tom Taylor - November 28, 2016
Earlier this month, lightweight contender Tony Ferguson extended his win-streak to nine with a win over the division’s former champion, Rafael Dos Anjos. One week later, Khabib Nurmagomedov scored a similarly impressive win over Michael Johnson, extending his record to a ridiculous 24-0 in the process. Given their current streaks, either man could easily be awarded the next crack at UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor. Because McGregor is currently enjoying some time off, however, it’s likely that they’ll wind up fighting each other for an interim lightweight title in the meantime. Whoever wins this potential interim title bout would almost certainly fight McGregor to unify the lightweight title when he returns from his hiatus. Tony Ferguson, however, is confident that McGregor wants no part of him, and will do whatever he can to avoid this prospective showdown.

Tom Taylor - November 28, 2016
Earlier this month, in the main event of the UFC’s latest trip to Mexico, Tony Ferguson outpointed former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos. It was the biggest win of his career, and it thrust him into the uppermost echelon of the lightweight division. In his post-fight interview, however, Ferguson neglected to call out the champion, or even another top-ranked fighter. During an appearance on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour, Ferguson explained this strange silence to host Ariel Helwani.
Khabib Nurmagomedov open to interim title fight with Tony Ferguson
bjpenndotcom - November 23, 2016
Earlier this month, top ranked lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov delivered a spectacular performance as he picked up a third round submission win over #8 ranked lightweight Michael Johnson in a highly anticipated matchup. The win was not only a finish for Nurmagomedov, but a rather dominant one as he put on a horrendously vicious display of ground and pound throughout the fight, talking trash to both Johnson, and UFC President Dana White in the middle of the fight. Following the fight, there have been conflicting reports form both Nurmagomedov and his camp regarding his next move. Immediately following the fight, Nurmagomedov offered the UFC an ultimatum, stating that if he wasn’t given a title shot for his next fight, he would be looking to fight for another promotion in the future. That was then followed up by an interview with Khabib’s father, who said that his son would be willing to take another fight in the meantime to cement his place as the #1 contender.

The main event was one of these fights. That main event pitted former lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos with streaking contender Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson. Over the course of the fight, the two top-ranked lightweights blasted one another with an incredible variety of strikes, from leg kicks, to knees, to punches, to plenty of spinning attacks. The end result was a dazzling, back-and-forth battle that would see Ferguson walk away with a hard-fought but well-deserved unanimous decision win. Twitter Beef! Lando Vannata Calls Tony Ferguson a "F**kcing Idiot"
Tom Taylor - October 19, 2016
Tony Ferguson‘s last fight, which occured back in July in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was originally expected to be against fellow Ultimate Fighter winner Michael Chiesa. When Chiesa withdrew from the fight with back injury just weeks before the event, however, Ferguson was forced to shift his attention to late replacement Lando Vannata, who made his UFC debut for this last-minute bout. Given the fact Ferguson was and still is a top-5 lightweight, and that Vannata had yet to even fight in the UFC, most fans expected this one to be a blowout for Ferguson. In the end, however, it was not.

While many hoped #1 ranked Khabib Nurmagomedov would step up, ‘The Eagle’ is currently on the sidelines while celebrating Ramadan. Tuesday afternoon, Sherdog revealed that Ferguson would be facing 8-0 UFC newcomer Landon Vannata, who trains at the Jackson-Wink MMA Academy.
