Tony Ferguson is not happy about being stripped of his UFC interim lightweight title

For the fourth time in the past four years a slated bout between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov failed to come to fruition at this weekend’s UFC 223 event in Brooklyn.

“El Cucuy” suffered a knee injury in what can only be described as a freak accident just days before the April 7 event at the Barclay’s Center.

In the end, “Raging” Al Iaquinta, who was already slated to fight Paul Felder on the UFC 223 fight card, would replace Ferguson and square off with “The Eagle” for the promotions undisputed UFC lightweight title in last night’s main event.

Al Iaquinta put forth a very gutsy performance at UFC 223, but it still wasn’t enought to stop “The Eagle” from improving his undefeated record to 26-0 after scoring a dominant decision victory.

Following last night’s UFC 223 main event, UFC Presidnet Dana White announced that both Conor McGregor and Tony Ferguson had been stripped of their respective UFC lightweight titles.

The decision to strip “Mystic Mac” made sense, as the Irish superstar has not competed in the octagon since winning that title in November of 2016 by knocking out Eddie Alvarez in the main event of UFC 205.

With that said, the promotions decision to strip Tony Ferguson, who just won the interim title this past fall against Kevin Lee, left a lot of fans and analysts puzzled.

“El Cucuy” took to Twitter where he vented his frustration with the UFC’s decision.

Ferguson also applauded Al Iaquinta for his efforts last night.

No word yet from the UFC on who will be the next man to challenge newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov for his title.

But one thing is for sure, Tony Ferguson still wants that fight!

Maybe the fifth time is the charm?
