Drake Riggs - November 14, 2018

UFC 233 takes place on January 26 and it is already looking like it will end up being a fantastic card to start off the new year. With one title fight already lined up, we could be getting a second at 170-pounds. It’s no secret that UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley and interim champion Colby Covington do not like each other and are on a crash course to meet one another inside the Octagon at some point. It’s just a matter of when.

Three UFC welterweight bouts to make in early 2019

Tom Taylor - November 4, 2018

On Sunday afternoon, BJPENN.COM’s Chris Taylor reported that the UFC is targeting a pair of crucial welterweight contender bouts for the early phases of the New Year. The first, Taylor reported, is expected to pit former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler against ever-dangerous karate stylist Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson. The other is expected to pit recent UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till against former ONE and Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren, who recently signed with the UFC.

Ben Askren gives definitive response to talk of fight with Tyron Woodley: 'No.'

Tom Taylor - October 29, 2018

By moving to the UFC, Ben Askren has opened the door to dozens of exciting new matchups, and he’s already started laying the foundation for some of those new fights. There is one matchup, however, that seems to be off the table: one with reigning UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley, to remind, are frequent training partners at Roufusport in Milwaukee. The relationship they’ve developed inside the Milwaukee gym is strong enough that Askren assures he’ll simply never fight the reigning champion.

Christopher Taylor - October 25, 2018

UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley believes his friend and teammate Ben Askren would easily defeat the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St-Pierre. The current UFC welterweight champion, Woodley, has known the former ONE Championship and Bellator welterweight title holder, Askren, for a long time. The pair originally wrestled together at University of Missouri, this before once again linking up to train under legendary striking coach Duke Roufus in Milwaukee.

EXCLUSIVE | Colby Covington doubts legitimacy of Woodley injury, vows to 'end his career' on Super Bowl Weekend

Cole Shelton - October 8, 2018

One of the options for the main event of the upcoming UFC 230 card was a welterweight title fight between champion Tyron Woodley and interim champion Colby Covington. With Covington healthy, and Woodley riding a huge win over Darren Till, the fight seemed to make a lot of sense. Furthermore, Woodley said he was open to fighting Covington at UFC 230, so long as he was given a clean bill of health. Unfortunately, he was then forced to go under the knife to repair an injured hand, ruling out this possibility. Well, Colby Covington isn’t buying it.

Coach feels two specific wins would cement Tyron Woodley as the welterweight GOAT

Tom Taylor - September 24, 2018

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, who has now defended the UFC welterweight title with consecutive defeats of Stephen Thompson (twice), Demian Maia, and Darren Till, is adamant that he is the greatest welterweight in the history of MMA. Many fans and pundits, however, beg to differ, maintaining that the former champion Georges St-Pierre is still the sport’s greatest welterweight. In the opinion of Tyron Woodley’s coach Din Thomas, Georges St-Pierre probably is still the greatest welterweight in the sport’s history, but Woodley could easily change that with a couple more wins — two wins over specific opponents, as a matter of fact.

In a recent interview with FanSided, Georges St-Pierre discussed Tyron Woodley’s claim to GOAT status.

Remember when we said that options were getting more and more limited for UFC 230’s headliner? Well, they just got even thinner. Tom Taylor - September 19, 2018

Ever since UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley defended his title with a second-round submission Darren Till on September 8, former interim champion Colby Covington has been calling him out for a title fight at UFC 230 on November 3. Apparently, Tyron Woodley is happy to accept Colby Covington’s challenge, so long as doctors give him the all-clear first.

Dear MMA Gods | Tyron Woodley's ultimate redemption

Drake Riggs - September 17, 2018

After two very smartly fought title defending performances, a necessary shoulder surgery led to the brief break of about a year for the UFC’s welterweight champion. Once he returned, it was time to remind all the doubters how skilled that he truly is. And he did just that. Of course, the champion in reference is “The Chosen One” Tyron Woodley. Despite those two title defenses that followed his draw with Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson in their first encounter, fans and pundits alike still didn’t seem all too sold on the reigning champion. It just further showed going into his recent defense against Darren Till as Woodley was once again the betting underdog.

Tyron Woodley doesn't feel he needs to beat GSP to become greatest welterweight ever

Tom Taylor - September 10, 2018

Former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre is pretty much the consensus best welterweight ever. Yet current champion Tyron Woodley is most definitely  closing in on that lofty title himself. In the eyes of many fans, however, it will be difficult for Tyron Woodley to cement himself as the welterweight GOAT without first defeating Georges St-Pierre. St-Pierre is, after all, still teasing a comeback.

Darren Till issues statement after submission loss to Tyron Woodley

Tom Taylor - September 9, 2018

On Saturday night, in the main event of UFC 228, Liverpool’s Darren Till stepped into the Octagon with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley, keen to take the welterweight belt for himself. Unfortunately for Till and his legions of fans, this fight did not go the way he planned. Instead, he was dropped and submitted by the champion in the bout’s second round. Having failed to capture the UFC welterweight title — and experienced the first defeat of his professional MMA career — it’s now back to the drawing board for Darren Till. While this loss is bound to be a tough pill to swallow, however, he seems to be in reasonably good spirits, all things considered.
