Dana White shares the "fight to make" for Tyron Woodley

Tom Taylor - January 16, 2018

At present, there are two frontrunners in the welterweight contendership race. One is former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos, who recently trounced Robbie Lawler. The other is streaking wrestling specialist Colby “Chaos” Covington, who recently thwarted Demian Maia. Both men have a pretty solid case for the next crack at divisional champion Tyron Woodley, but in the opinion of UFC President Dana White, one makes more sense than the other. White cleared up the welterweight contendership picture on Fs1 in the wake of last Saturday’s UFC St. Louis card.

VIDEO | Tyron Woodley Predicts a Fight Against Georges St-Pierre in July

Justin Golightly - January 12, 2018

While Tyron Woodley recuperates from his shoulder surgery, welterweight contenders are pacing back and forth itching at their shot to try and take his gold away from him. Rafael dos Anjos feels like he has earned it with his dominant performance against former champ Robbie Lawler, but Woodley already told him he has other plans. Colby Covington has had Woodley’s name in his mouth since his win over Demian Maia, but T-Wood thinks he doesn’t deserve it. What the UFC welterweight champion wants is to prove he is the best of all time. Something he can only do against Georges St-Pierre. “I’d say that’s my big prediction for 2018. Big prediction for me is I fight Georges St-Pierre on my first fight back. Georges, my shoulder is sore. I can’t even punch. Georges, I can’t even punch. I can’t punch.Georges, it’s hard to sleep. Georges, if you want to fight me brother, this is the time. If you want to get me Georges, it’s right now. He’s a G. He would exit the sport and nobody would give him that much stuff for losing to me.”

Tyron Woodley explains why he "really wasn't impressed" by Rafael dos Anjos' defeat of Robbie Lawler

Tom Taylor - January 7, 2018

Last month, in the main event of UFC on Fox 26, former UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos picked up one of the best wins of his already impressive career, defeating Robbie Lawler by unanimous decision. In the eyes of many fans, this win was enough to earn dos Anjos a fight with UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley. Woodley himself, however, doesn’t share this opinion. “Was it a good performance?” Woodley recently told MMAFighting. “If I had Robbie Lawler against the Octagon like [dos Anjos did], would he have been alive or would he have been knocked the f*ck out? He’d have been knocked out.”

Justin Golightly - January 6, 2018

Whether or not he’s your favorite fighter or not, Khabib Nurmagomedov is the shining, smashing example of a fighter’s fighter. The type of man that other UFC fighters pick as their favorite fighter, that is unless they have to face him in the Octagon. He came back, answered the single doubt he’s left in anyone’s mind, and absolutely dominated a top five lightweight in Edson Barboza in devastating fashion. From one champion to another, Tyron Woodley is mad hype on Khabib Nurmagomedov. “Let’s get some respect for this dude, because I don’t want [Khabib Nurmagomedov] storming in here trying to double leg my ass. I’m gonna say something outlandish. ‘F’ Tony Ferguson right now. I think he jumps Tony Ferguson and he goes straight to Conor McGregor. Man, it was completely savage how he was whooping up on the homie Michael Johnson — which is a tough cookie — and was saying stop. When a man telling you to quit and give up in a fight, he’s on a whole ‘nother level.”

However, that’s not the direction the UFC is going in according to Chael Sonnen. It looks like the report of Woodley possibly coaching the newest season of The Ultimate Fighter along with Covington is still going around, giving Covington the shot he’s rallied for relentlessly.

VIDEO | Tyron Woodley Gives Update on his Shoulder Surgery

Drake Riggs - December 21, 2017

Last week, UFC Welterweight champion of the world, Tyron Woodley announced that he was indeed going to go through with the shoulder surgery he briefly mentioned a few weeks prior. “I’m going to go ahead and get this shoulder repaired,” Woodley said. “I’ve been saying, ‘You know what, I don’t want to get it cut on, I don’t want to get it repaired.’ But if there’s no fight that really makes a ton of sense for me to take the risk, to not be 100 percent with my shoulder, then I’m going to go ahead and have it repaired. They’re not going to do a full orthopedic rehabilitation, but they’re going to do a scope and they’re going to anchor down some sides. Then I’m going to get some PRP (platelet-rich plasma), some stem cells. I’m doing everything.”

Colby Covington Has Become Too Much for These UFC Fighters to Handle

Justin Golightly - December 9, 2017

Colby Covington has been making a case for a shot at welterweight champion Tyron Woodley for awhile now, but it’s been more than just talk. He did end up with a win over the last title challenger in grappling guru Demian Maia. This only heated up his rampage promotional tour to make sure Woodley, and every other welterweight for that matter, knew he was the new man to beat at 170-pounds. His relentless tirade looks like it has resulted in a roster-wide blocking on social media. You can block it on twitter but the chaos sensation is sweeping the world!!! Tom Taylor - December 5, 2017

Though UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley was briefly linked to a UFC 219 super fight with Nate Diaz, this bout ultimately fell through. With this blockbuster battle off the table, Woodley shared his plan to undergo a long overdue shoulder surgery to repair a nagging injury. From the sounds of it, though, the champ is re-considering. Speaking to the media during last weekend’s UFC 218 festivities, the champ shared his belief that the UFC might need him in the coming months, and announced that he’s thinking about putting his shoulder surgery off.

Report: Tyron Woodley is considering vacating the UFC welterweight title

Tom Taylor - December 3, 2017

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has been angling for a fight with former champ Georges St-Pierre for some time. Now that St-Pierre is the UFC middleweight champion, however, the chances of a welterweight bout between the two seem slim. Luckily, Woodley has a backup plan. The welterweight king is ready and willing to move up to the 185-pound middleweight division to battle St-Pierre. In fact, he’s even willing to vacate the welterweight title if need be. This, per MMAJunkie.com’s Mike Bohn.

EXCLUSIVE | Tyron Woodley explains why Nate Diaz was his only option for UFC 219

Chris Taylor - November 29, 2017

UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley will not be fighting Nate Diaz or any other opponent at December’s UFC 219 event in Las Vegas. The Diaz vs. Woodley bout was first reported to be in the works earlier this month. Unfortunately, Nate’s financial demands for the fight proved to be too much and the proposed bout was eventually scrapped entirely.

VIDEO | Tyron Woodley Blasts 'Scared Homie' Nate Diaz for Pricing Himself Out

Justin Golightly - November 29, 2017

Even though Dana White recently spoke out and said the fight was never offered, it seems like some negotiations were going on between Nate Diaz’s team and Tyron Woodley. The fight seemed to come out of nowhere and then faded away almost as quickly. The UFC welterweight champ hasn’t been shy about calling out Diaz on his problematic negotiation tactics, even coming up with a $10 million split between the two, but it all fell on deaf ears. Finally, Woodley officially says the fight is dead and he’ll be moving on with surgery and the many other business opportunities on his plate. “Well, I’m fired up because I know you booked some hotel rooms and Nate Diaz is obviously scared, homie. When someone says, ‘Hey, I want to get paid $15 million’ to fight a fighter and they’ve never received that — not even to fight Conor McGregor — that’s a nice way of saying no, I don’t want to fight them. That’s like me saying, ‘Hey, yeah. I’ll fight f-cking Stipe Miocic. Just pay me $35 million.’ That’s basically saying no. So, unfortunately, it would have been a crazy card December 30th in Las Vegas and it would have been a crazy end-of-the-year, unfortunately it’s not taking place. I’m not fighting Nate Diaz. That’s how the cookie crumbles, man. [He missed out on] a huge payday, man. He can’t run forever.”

Tyron Woodley Offers a Solution to Nate Diaz's Money Demands

Justin Golightly - November 23, 2017

The potential fight between Tyron Woodley and Nate Diaz came and went nearly as fast as the UFC welterweight champ punches. The deal was halfway done until the talk stalled, which prompted Woodley to put Diaz on blast every chance he got. With the Cris Cyborg and Holly Holm fight announced, that looked to be the final nail in the coffin. We’ve since learned that the UFC is still not happy with how UFC 219 is turning out, so it looks like negotiations are still on-going. Tyron Woodley has come up with an idea of how to get Diaz into the Octagon with a compromise that rests in-between his large $15 million demands to fight. Give @NateDiaz209 5, give me 5 and winner gets another 5. Deal done! @danawhite @ufc https://t.co/sGCemc67g5

Coach Richard Perez shares Nate Diaz's sizeable price tag, says UFC doesn't want to pay it

Tom Taylor - November 22, 2017

Over the last few weeks, there has been significant buzz surrounding a possible UFC 219 welterweight title fight between champ Tyron Woodley and long-time lightweight contender Nate Diaz. As the time between us and UFC 219 continues to dissipate, however, this fight continues to look more and more unlikely. According to Richard Perez, who serves as Nate Diaz’s boxing coach, if this fight doesn’t get made it will be because the UFC doesn’t want to pay Diaz his asking price.
