After nearly four years away from competition, Georges St-Pierre is expected to return to the Octagon in November. Not only will St-Pierre be returning to fight in the UFC, the former welterweight champion is looking to jump up a weight class and take on UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping. If victorious against Bisping, St-Pierre will be among the few who have won UFC titles in two divisions, which include Randy Couture, BJ Penn, and Conor McGregor. While legacy and records are one thing, UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley says GSP has another motive for his comeback and should just be open about it with his fans.

Following that, Woodley and UFC President Dana White engaged in a rather heated feud that saw both sides go off on one another in various interviews. White informed Woodley that he would be revoking his superfight with Georges St-Pierre due to the fact that he is confident that fans don’t want to see Woodley fight. After their public spat, Woodley threatened to release unfavorable screenshots of White unless he received a public apology. Following that, reports emerged that White and Woodley had settled their beef, and were now on good terms once again.

Last Saturday, in the co-main event of UFC 214, Tyron Woodley made a third defense of the UFC welterweight title with a decision defeat of Demian Maia. Unfortunately, Woodley suffered a torn labrum in the bout, which is likely to keep him on the sidelines for at least five months. Though Woodley is likely to be out of action for the latter half of 2017, he has already begun considering the possibilities for his next title defense. Speaking to BJPenn.com’s Chris Taylor, the champ explained that there is not exactly a clear welterweight contender out there at the moment. He also ran through some potential welterweight matchups that might produce a clear-cut contender.

UFC President Dana White was not happy with the UFC 214 welterweight title fight performance from Tyron Woodley, which took place over the weekend in Anaheim, California. White stated that Woodley and Maia set a record for the least amount of punches thrown in a five-round title fight. White also said that he thought Woodley could have taken some risks to finish Maia who had a very swollen eye from the first round that he likely could not see out of for the majority of the fight.

Unfortunately, the insipid nature of Woodley’s win drew the ire of many members of the MMA community, including UFC President Dana White, who berated the champ with an unsavory verbal onslaught at the UFC 214 post-fight presser. Woodley responded to White’s criticism on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour, explaining that his tepid performance was due to a shoulder injury he sustained early in the fight. He then demanded a public apology from the UFC boss, and threatened to leak negative information if he didn’t get one.

UFC President Dana White was not exactly thrilled with the UFC welterweight title fight between champion Tyron Woodley and challenger Demian Maia that took place over the weekend at UFC 214. It’s a tough thing to deal with as styles make fights and Woodley executed exactly what he wanted to do in avoiding all of Maia’s takedowns and keep the fight on their feet. However, White did state that the title fight between the two set a record for the least amount of punches thrown in a five-round title fight. White added that he believes Woodley could have turned it up and got the finish over Maia but was unwilling to take the risk.

Former UFC welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre, who has not fought since late 2013, is widely regarded as the greatest welterweight of all time. Current UFC welterweight champ Tyron Woodley, who has now defended the title three times, is keen to usurp St-Pierre’s rep as the welterweight GOAT. If Woodley could beat St-Pierre, of course, he’d have a much easier time claiming to be the best. Unfortunately, St-Pierre doesn’t seem interested in accepting a fight with Woodley, and is instead keen on fighting UFC middleweight Michael Bisping. Woodley thinks this is because St-Pierre is avoiding him – which should make him the welterweight GOAT by default.

Though the fight was an undeniably slow one, Woodley successfully defended his welterweight crown, stopping all 21 of Maia’s attempted takedowns en route to a unanimous decision win. A welterweight title fight served as the co-main event of tonight’s UFC 214 fight card in Anaheim as current champ Tyron Woodley took on top contender Demian Maia. Round one begins and Maia starts off with immediate pressure. He shoots in and tries to secure a takedown. Woodley is able to shake him off. Woodley lands an uppercut. Maia shoots in for another takedown attempt. He grabs a hold of a leg. Woodley is doing a good job of defending. Maia pulls out and we are back to standing. Woodley with a nice right hand. Maia presses forward. Once again he shoots in. Woodley grabs the fence and is able to stay standing. Maia shoots in again. He grabs a foot but Woodley escapes. Tyron with a right hand. Maia presses forward with a left. Woodley circles and takes the center of the octagon. He throws a right hand. Maia avoids. Demian with some pressure now. Woodley explodes forward with a right hand. Maia shoots in for a takedown. He cannot secure the shot. Woodley circles out. He comes in and throws a right hand that misses. Twenty seconds remain. Woodley circles. Round one comes to an end.

More recently, however, Woodley, the UFC and White seemed to be getting along swimmingly. Woodley even attended White’s son’s birthday party.
