Tyson Pedro quickly ends his retirement, set to become a pro boxer

Tyson Pedro has already ended his combat sports retirement.

Following his decision loss to Vitor Petrino at UFC Vegas 87 on March 2, Pedro announced his retirement from combat sports. Pedro claimed he no longer had a passion for the sport, and he said the expenses to train and travel for the fights started to take a toll on him.

“It’s been on my mind a little bit lately. Mainly, (I’ve) just been away from my daughter. I’ve been away probably 12 months in the last two and a half years from my wife and baby. That’s obviously my choice going over to New Zealand (to train),” Pedro said after UFC Vegas 88. “I know that’s where I’m going to be the best mixed martial artist… It’s more a family thing, definitely. I’ve got a change of dreams, so if I’m going to do that, I might as well spend it with my daughter.”

Now, not even two weeks after retiring, Tyson Pedro is already set to return to combat sports, but this time, he is set to become a pro boxer. The Aussie signed with Danny Green, the founder of Green Machine Promotions.

“I didn’t think my retirement was going to be this short,” Pedro said at a press conference (via BoxingScene). “I have always had ideas about entering boxing and those ideas are now moving a lot faster than I had ever dreamed. It’s very exciting times. “I’m not going to be taking easy fights. Danny and I already have a plan for who I will fight. I am definitely not coming to take easy fights because I want to be in exciting fights. I want to be involved in good boxing cards from the top all the way down to the bottom.

“This is my opportunity to enter boxing, so I don’t want to take anything away from it because I also want to give back to it. That means putting on good events and giving young fighters opportunities because that is my goal, too,” Pedro continued.

Tyson Pedro is expected to debut in the recently created bridgerweight division. It’s uncertain when he will make his debut, but Green has confidence Pedro can become a world champion in boxing.

Tyson Pedro finished his MMA career with a 10-5 record and went 6-5 in the UFC.
