UFC 211 Results: Demian Maia vs. Jorge Masvidal

A welterweight bout between top division contenders Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal took place during tonight’s UFC 211 pay-per-view card in Dallas, Texas.

Round one begins and Maia immediately shoots in and begins working for a takedown. He eventually gets it. Masvidal quickly scrambles and gets back up to his feet. Maia stays on him and continues to pursue a takedown. He gets it. Masvidal tries to scramble and back up but Demian takes his back. He moves to lock in his legs. Maia gives up on that and takes a side of Jorge. Maia transitions back on to the back of Masivdal. He locks in both hooks. Masvidal stands up but Demian is on his back with the hooks in. Masvidal is fighting off multiple submission attempts. After over a minute of doing that Masvidal is able to sweep Maia and wind up on top. He begins raining down punches until the horn sounds to end round one.

Round two begins and Masvidal lands a right hand to start. Maia shoots in and it is stuffed by Jorge. He lands a nice leg kick on Maia. Demian shoots again but cannot secure the takedown. Masvidal connects with a hard body kick and then a viscous leg kick. He lands another kick to the body of Maia. Masivdal with another leg kick. Maia shoots in and is stuffed. Jorge lands a knee. He winds up in top position. Jorge with a hammer fist. Maia scrambles and winds up on top. Masvidal rolls for an anaconda choke. He cannot secure the finish and Maia moves to half guard. Jorge is able to scramble and get back to his feet. Maia is all over him. He is able to secure the takedown and looks to take the back of Masvidal. He can’t fully secure the position and opts to rain down some punches to close out round two.

Round three begins and Masvidal opens up with a head kick. He lands a hard low kick. Another body kick from Jorge. Maia is bouncing around now. He throws a jab to the body. Masvidal comes forward and lands a head kick. Maia circles but Jorge continues to press forward. Demian faints but then eats a body kick. He shoots in and gets a hold of a leg. He trips Jorge to the ground. Maia works to take the back. He eventually gets there. He locks in both hook and rolls for a rear-naked choke. Jorge is defending well but Maia has a body triangle. Maia begins working some shots but Masvidal continues to defend. Round three comes to an end.
