UFC Fight Night Austin Results: Sage Northcutt defeats Thibault Gouti

A lightweight scrap between Sage Northcutt and Thibault Gouti kicked off tonight’s UFC Fight Night Austin main card on FOX Sports.

Round one begins and Gouti starts off quickly. Sage catches him with a nice jab. Gouti with a nice left but Sage immediately shoots in and scores a big double leg takedown. Northcutt immediately moves to side control and begins working some short right hands. Gouti is doing a good job of defending here. Northcutt postures up and lands an elbow. Gouti attempts to scramble but Northcutt catches him with a big right hand. More shots from Sage. Gouti scrambles and gets back up to his feet. The fighters exchange low kicks. Sage with a nice kick to the body. Gouti lands a hard right hand over the top that rocks Northcutt. Sage dives in for a takedown but Thibault locks up a guillotine choke. It is in deep. Somehow Northcutt survives and then circles off the fence. He lands a front kick to the body of Gouti. Sage with a jab followed by an elbow. He seems to be recovered from that heavy right hand that he ate earlier. Gouti presses forward but misses with an attempted body kick. He shoots in for a takedown but Sage denies the shot. Northcutt paws with his jab. He shoots in for single leg but it is not there. Gouti with a spinning back fist that misses. Round one comes to an end.

Round two begins and Gouti once again starts off quickly with pressure. Sage throws a combination. Gouti lands a nice counter left hand over the top. He follows that up with another combination that sends Sage to the floor. Gouti jumps on him and moves into the half guard. Northcutt is trying to get his back against the fence in an attempt to stand back up. Gouti is holding him down for now. Sage scrambles and this time gets back up to his feet. That position is short lived however as Gouti quickly drags Sage back to the floor. Gouti is looking to move to mount. Northcutt prevents that from happening and stands back up. Gouti is still all over Sage but Northcutt eventually shrugs him off and breaks free. Back on the feet now. Sage with a jab followed by a kick. Gouti continues to use a lot of pressure. Sage circles and then lands a push kick. Round two comes to an end.

Round three begins and Sage presses forward and lands a kick. Another kick from Northcutt is deemed low and we briefly break while Gouti recovers. We restart and Sage lands a heavy low kick followed by a nice right hand over the top. Gouti eats another shot but continues to press forward. Sage catches him with a nice kick coming in. Gouti with a leaping left and then he shoots in for a takedown. He gets it. Northcutt immediately begins to wall-walk but Gouti drags him right back down to the canvas. Sage begins working some elbows from his back. He scrambles and is back on his knees. Gouti remains wrapped around Sage’s knees. Northcutt continues to utilize some short elbows from the position. He attempts to lock in a choke. Sage uses that to stand back up to his feet. The fighters break and Sage lands a pair of low kicks. He shoots in for a takedown but cannot secure it. Northcutt lets go and then throws a flying knee. He shoots in for another takedown but Gouti is not having it. Fifteen seconds remain. Gouti with some knees inside. Sage with a cartwheel kick. The horn sounds to end round three.
