UFC Denver medical suspensions

This past weekend, fight fans tuned in for a highly anticipated night of fights at UFC Denver, also known as UFC on FOX 23. The event certainly delivered on all marks, with the main card producing four finishes in four fights.

To kick off the main card, streaking featherweight Jason Knight picked up his third straight win as he defeated Alex ‘Bruce Leeroy’ Caceres via submission in the second round, making it three straight wins for Knight. Francis Ngannou followed up Knight’s 2nd round submission by picking up a ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus as he knocked out Andrei Arlovski in the very first round.

In the co-main event, Jorge Masvidal picked up a massive win as he TKOd Donald Cerrone in the second round of their highly anticipated scrap. For Masvidal, the win made it three straight, whereas for Cerrone, the loss snapped his 4-fight win streak that saw him go 4-0 over the course of 2016 as he climbed to the #5 spot on the welterweight rankings.

In the main event, top ranked women’s bantamweight Valentina Shevchenko proved she’s not just a striker as she picked up a 2nd round submission win over Julianna Pena, securing herself a title fight with women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes.

Jordan Johnson: Suspended 180 days, can be cleared earlier by physician

Eric Shelton: Suspended 180 days, can be cleared earlier by physician; minimum suspension of 30 days

Jorge Masvidal: Suspended 90 days, can be cleared earlier by physician

Marcos Rogerio De Lima: Suspended 90 days, can be cleared earlier by physician; minimum suspension of 30 days (weight)

Andrei Arlovski: Suspended 60 days

Robert Nash: Suspended 60 days

Donald Cerrone: Suspended 45 days

Henrique da Silva: Suspended 45 days

Jason Knight: Suspended 30 days

Alex Caceres: Suspended 30 days

Sam Alvey: Suspended 30 days

Nate Marquardt: Suspended 30 days

Alessio Di Chirico: Suspended 30 days

Eric Spicely: Suspended 30 days

Jeremy Kimball: Suspended 30 days

J.C. Cottrell: Suspended 30 days

Jason Gonzalez: Suspended 30 days

As always, fighters not mentioned received the minimum 7-day suspension, and will be eligible to compete again on February 4th.
