UFC Vegas 87 Bonus Report: Vinicius Oliveira takes home $100k
The Octagon returned to Nevada for today’s UFC Vegas 87 event, an 11-bout fight card headlined by Jairzinho Rozenstruik vs. Shamil Gaziev.
The highly anticipated heavyweight main event resulted in a TKO victory for Jairzinho Rozenstruik following the conclusion of round four. ‘Bigi Boy’ was able to stifle the grappling of Shamil Gaziev early and often in the fight and proceeded to pepper his powerful opponent with jabs and low kicks throughout the twenty-minute affair. After a lopsided five minutes in the fourth frame, Gaziev seemingly had no interest in continuing and the referee eventually stepped in and called a stop to the contest. It was a disappointing ending, but still a solid and impressive performance from the veteran.
UFC Vegas 87 was co-headlined by a light heavyweight bout featuring Tyson Pedro taking on Vitor Petrino. The contest proved to be a hard-fought back and forth affair, with Petrino ultimately emerging victorious by way of unanimous decision (30-27 x2, 29-28).
Following the conclusion of tonight’s event, UFC officials announced at the post-fight press conference that three fighters would be taking home performance bonuses.
Fight of the night: Bantamweight fighters Vinicius Oliveira and Bernardo Sopai each pocketed $50k for their thrilling war on tonight’s UFC Vegas 87 preliminary card. Oliveira ultimately won the contest by knockout.
Performance of the night: Stephen Erceg pocketed an extra $50k for his second-round knockout victory over Matt Schnell. Erceg landed a perfectly timed left hand which put Schnell to sleep.
Performance of the night: Vinicius Oliveira also earned an extra $50k for his highlight reel flying knee knockout victory over Bernardo Sopai on today’s prelims. (see that here).
