After multiple callouts, Mickey Gall gets desired fight with Diego Sanchez
Over the last few months, UFC welterweight prospect Mickey Gall has made several callouts of The Ultimate Fighter season 1 winner Diego Sanchez.
“The one I want the most is, I like Diego Sanchez,” Gall told ESPN recently. “The guy is a fucking legend, I’d love to fight Diego Sanchez. So that’s the one I’m hoping for,” he said. “He’s got a fight next, that could get lined up perfectly. So if he wants to do it, I would love to fight a legend like Diego Sanchez. It’s the one I want the most so it’s the one I am pushing for.”
It appears as though this callout was successful.
On Friday, the UFC announced that Mickey Gall will fight Diego Sanchez at UFC 235, which is scheduled for March 2 inside Las Vegas, Nevada’s T-Mobile Arena.
For Gall, this bout will serve as an opportunity to build on the momentum of a recent win over George Sullivan. This win separated him from the lone loss of his career, a November 2017 defeat to Randy Brown. Prior to this loss, Gall defeated Sage Northcutt and CM Punk, both by submission. He is 5-1 overall.
Diego Sanchez, meanwhile, is 28-11 overall. In his last fight, he picked up a dominant decision defeat of Craig White. This win was preceded by consecutive knockout losses to Matt Brown and Al Iaquinta, and a decision defeat of Marcin Held.
UFC 235 will also include a welterweight contender bout between former UFC champ Robbie Lawler and former ONE and Bellator lightweight champ Ben Askren. This fight was originally expected to occur on the cancelled UFC 233 card.
The March 2 card is also expected to feature a welterweight fight between fan favorites Jorge Masvidal and Nick Diaz.
