Brendan Schaub: Conor McGregor has been offered opponent, received contract for next fight
According to Brendan Schaub, a veteran of the UFC heavyweight division and the host of the Below The Belt podcast, the next fight of Conor McGregor is almost a done deal.
Speaking on his podcast recently, Schaub claimed that, contrary to the recent comments of UFC President Dana White, Conor McGregor has indeed been offered a fight with fan favorite UFC welterweight and lightweight contender Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone next.
Apparently, McGregor has even received the contract for this fight.
“The Donald Cerrone-Conor McGregor fight was offered, that’s the plan and they’re waiting for Conor to sign the contract,” Schaub said (via Metro).
“It’s up to Conor if he wants that as his next fight,” he added. “I know from a legit source close to the situation that that is the fight they want to do.
“It’s up to Conor McGregor if he decides to sign the contract or not. But that fight, from what I’m told, has been offered.”
‘When [Dana White] said they haven’t thought of an opponent for either Khabib or Conor, that’s not true either. For Khabib it’s Tony Ferguson, for Conor it’s Donald Cerrone.’
This exciting news ignores one key detail: that Conor McGregor is currently awaiting punishment for his part in the post-fight brawl that followed his UFC 229 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov. Depending on how the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) decides to discipline him, he could be out for months, which would mean this potential fight with Cerrone could be a ways off.
As mentioned above, UFC President Dana White also denied rumors of this McGregor – Cerrone fight, maintaining that McGregor had not been offered anything, and that he won’t be until his situation with the NSAC is sorted.
“That’s not true, absolutely not true. Obviously that’s the fight that Cowboy Cerrone wants but that’s not true,” he told TMZ. “We haven’t even thought about an opponent for either one of those guys yet – meaning Khabib or Conor.”
“Those guys go before The Nevada State Athletic Commission in December than we’ll know what’s up.
Do you think we could see Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone fight in the UFC in the near future?
