Chael Sonnen makes bold prediction for UFC 235 main event
Former UFC title challenger Chael Sonnen has a bold prediction for tonight’s UFC 235 main event title fight between Jon Jones and Anthony Smith.
“The American Gangster” joined Ariel Helwani last night on ESPN’s Sports Center where he shared his pick for this evenings highly anticipated UFC 235 main event.

“I am picking Anthony Smith and I will tell you why,” Chael Sonnen explained. “Jon Jones is the better fighter. Jon Jones is going to win more exchanges. Jon Jones is going to win more rounds. But Anthony Smith only needs to win five seconds of this fight. He is ready to do it mentally and physically. I used to train with him. I come here with a little bit of bias. But I believe from what I’ve seen in his career that he can do it. He only needs those five seconds. I think he stops Jon Jones!”
Now before you call up your bookie and bet the house on “Lionheart”, it is important to remember that Chael Sonnen has a storied history with Jon Jones which may have factored into his bold prediction.
Sonnen lost to Jones via first round TKO in their title fight at UFC 159 in April of 2013.
Jon Jones was last seen in action at December’s UFC 232 event in Los Angeles, where he defeated Alexander Gustafsson via third round knockout to reclaim the promotions vacant light heavyweight title.
Meanwhile, Anthony Smith will enter tonight’s UFC 235 main event on a three-fight win streak, his latest being a submission victory over Volkan Oezdemir this past October in Moncton.
