CM Punk still in USADA testing pool, featured in new series
CM Punk appears to still be on the UFC roster.
That’s according to TSN’s Aaron Bronsteter who noted that Punk (real name Phil Brooks) is still in the USADA testing pool.
CM Punk (0-2) made his MMA debut in Aug. 2016 at UFC 203 and suffered a first-round submission loss to Mickey Gall. The 40-year-old then made his return to the octagon in his home state of Chicago at UFC 225 last June. Unfortunately the Roufusport product was on the wrong end of a unanimous decision loss after being defeated by Mike Jackson. It was an ambitious feat not only competing in MMA in his late thirties but also having no significant background in MMA prior to competing in the UFC. Punk is best known for his work in the WWE where he was the sixth longest reigning WWE Champion of all time.
Along with being tested by USADA, CM Punk is also featured on the upcoming “The Science of Mortal Kombat” series produced by Because Science. The show is set to debut on Tuesday (Feb. 19) and is hosted by Kyle Hill. Punk is part of a panel (including Daniel Cormier) that tests the laws of physics in the longstanding video game Mortal Kombat. Perhaps one of the reasons Punk is featured on the show, is that Midway Games created Mortal Kombat in Punk’s hometown of Chicago. The very first Mortal Kombat game was released in 1992 on the Arcade. It was later released on the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo.
The game was also part of a major video game controversy in the 90’s as many felt the game was too violent for children. After many court cases it lead to the introduction of ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) game rating system.
