Dana White: UFC matchmakers working on Darren Till’s next fight

By Tom Taylor - June 13, 2019

Not long ago, Darren Till stood out as the top contender in the UFC welterweight division. After a submission loss to former champion Tyron Woodley and a knockout loss at the hands of Jorge Masvidal, however, the British striker has fallen on hard times.

Speaking to BT Sport while in London for Thursday’s UFC 242 press conference, UFC President Dana White update on Till, explaining that the Brit’s next fight is on the agenda for an imminent matchmaking meeting.

“We were talking about it today,” he said of Till’s next fight. “We have a big matchmaking meeting tomorrow and that’s one of the things we’re working on.”

One matchup that seems like a possibility for Darren Till is a fight with fellow Brit Leon Edwards. The pair have a longstanding rivalry that begs to be settled in the cage.

“We talked about that too,” White said. “Those two don’t like each other. We might have to divide the country if we make that fight.

“I think that’s a massive fight in England.”

Dana White also discussed the possibility of Darren Till hiking up to the middleweight division — a subject that is brought up often given the Brit’s frequent struggles to make the welterweight division’s 171-pound limit.

“He’s so big,” White said. “I like the idea of him doing that, but I don’t know. I don’t know what he’s thinking right now.”

The UFC boss wrapped things up with some high praise for Till.

“He’s a great kid and I like him a lot,” he said. “He’s still young, and he’s still learning and still growing. I still think he has an incredibly bright future.”
