Dana White shares the plans for Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov’s next fights
Speaking on ESPN’s Now or Never this week, UFC President Dana White delved into a procession of hot-button MMA topics — most notably the next fights of Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov.
First, the UFC boss gave a big thumbs up to a much discussed fight between Conor McGregor and Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.
“Yeah, I like that fight,” he said of a McGregor vs. Cerrone matchup. “They both have called each other out. First of all, Cowboy, tell me that last boring fight that guy was in. The answer is never. He just bust into the top-10 — [he’s a] warrior. Unbelievable fight he just had. And Conor McGregor has fought anybody we’ve ever asked him to. If these two want to fight I’m in.”
Later, Dana White addressed a potential rematch between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov, explaining that he’d prefer to have Nurmagomedov battle Tony Ferguson while McGregor and Cerrone mix it up. If both McGregor and Nurmagomedov win, he’ll pursue the blockbuster rematch.
“I don’t want to say never— but not now,” he said of this rematch. “[Nurmagomedov] is going to have his suspension. I think what needs to happen is Khabib versus Tony Ferguson, do Conor vs. Cowboy, and if they both come out of that, we do the rematch. “
White also addressed a potential tie-breaking trilogy fight between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz. Unfortunately for Diaz fans, this one sounds like a no-go. At least for now.
“That’s more of a never,” he said. “The Diaz brothers, they don’t want to fight.”
