Donald Cerrone drops huge hint about UFC 239 fight with Conor McGregor

There’s recently been a ton of buzz surrounding a potential lightweight showdown between fan favorite contender Donald Cerrone and former champion Conor McGregor.

Conor McGregor, Donald Cerrone

On Thursday morning, Donald Cerrone gave us reason to believe this fight could be happening quite soon, in the heat of International Fight Week.

In a cryptic Instagram post, Cerrone shared a photograph of a bottle of Budweiser beside a bottle of Proper No. Twelve whiskey. Budweiser, to remind, sponsors Cerrone, while Proper No. Twelve is the creation of Conor McGregor. The caption for this photo included the date July 9, which is the expected date for the UFC 239 card.

“@budweiser vs @properwhiskey 🇺🇸 🇮🇪 July 6th” – Donald Cerrone on Instagram.

Cerrone last fought at UFC Brooklyn in January, when he burst back into lightweight title contention with a beautiful defeat of Alexander Hernandez. His next most recent victory occurred in the welterweight division, where he submitted Mike Perry in the first round.

Conor McGregor, meanwhile, last fought in October, when he was submitted by UFC lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main event of UFC 229. After this fight, he and Nurmagomedov and several members of their respective teams engaged in wild brawl, both inside and outside of the cage. In January, McGregor was handed a six-month suspension for his role in this chaotic scene. He’ll be eligible to fight again in April.

While pretty much the whole world seems interested in a McGregor-Cerrone fight, including UFC President Dana White, the UFC boss recently pumped the brakes on this potential matchup, assuring it’s far from a done deal just yet.

“It’s not even close to being done,” he recently told TMZ.

This post from Donald Cerrone, however, would seem to imply it’s in the works for UFC 229.
