Dustin Poirier to host ‘Thanks-Christmas’ after UFC 269, plans to use world title as a dinner plate
UFC star Dustin Poirier is clearly in a relaxed mood after declaring he will have ‘Thanks-Christmas’ dinner to celebrate if he wins at UFC 269.
This Saturday night, Dustin Poirier will attempt to finally reach the top of the mountain when he challenges Charles Oliveira for the UFC lightweight championship. Both men have been on incredible runs as of late with Oliviera beating Kevin Lee, Tony Ferguson and Michael Chandler, whereas Poirier has defeated Dan Hooker and Conor McGregor twice since his title defeat to Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Understandably, both men have been taking their training for UFC 269 very seriously – which includes having to scale back on anything outside of their camp.
So then, it makes sense that Dustin Poirier is pretty excited about the prospect of a big celebratory meal if he can get his hand raised in Las Vegas.
“It’ll be Christmas-giving, Thanks-Christmas. I’m making a big dinner, all types of pies. I’m eating dinner on the belt! I’ma use the belt as a plate.”
Of course, actually winning the big one is going to be easier said than done given who he’s going up against.
Charles Oliveira is as confident as he’s ever been inside the Octagon and he’ll back himself to cause Poirier problems regardless of where the fight goes. “The Diamond” has been tipped to get the better of the Brazilian on the feet, but we saw the knockout prowess of “Do Bronx” in his title-winning performance against Chandler.
Between that and the ground game, there are a whole lot of unknowns as the countdown to fight night continues.
