‘Jacare’ Souza has awesome reaction to Yoel Romero rematch booking
When former Strikeforce champ Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza joined the UFC middleweight division in 2013, he was right on the cusp of a UFC middleweight title shot.
He’s remained in close range of a title shot ever since, but unfortunately has never had the opportunity to fight for a UFC belt thus far.
Today, Jacare is seemingly as close as ever to a middleweight title shot, but with champion Robert Whittaker injured and Kelvin Gastelum and Israel Adesanya battling for the interim belt in April, he’s been booked for a high-stakes rematch with former title challenger Yoel Romero. The bout will headline the UFC’s April 27 stop in Sunrise, Florida.
Needless to say, the Brazilian’s road to UFC gold has been long and arduous. Luckily, he seems to be taking it all in stride.
Shortly after this rematch with Yoel Romero was announced, he took to Instagram with a clever reaction.
“The road is getting longer, but I can handle it,” this post reads.
Jacare Souza will enter his rematch with Yoel Romero with a thrilling knockout victory over Chris Weidman in the rear-view. In his next most recent fight, he gave up a split decision to Kelvin Gastelum. This loss was preceded by a knockout victory over Derek Brunson, a TKO loss to Robert Whittaker, and a submission of Tim Boetsch. He’s currently a strong 26-6 overall.
Do you think we’ll ever see him contend for the UFC middleweight strap, or will his path once again be blocked when he fights Romero in Florida?
