Jose Aldo still isn’t sure he’ll be able to fight at UFC 237
Former UFC featherweight champ Jose Aldo is currently scheduled for a UFC 227 showdown with streaking contender Alexander Volkanovski. But unfortunately, an infection Aldo sustained in wrestling practice has thrust this matchup into jeopardy.
Jose Aldo updated on the situation at a scrum in Brazil this week.
“I was training wrestling last week and I went in for a double leg takedown and I kind of burned my knee on the mats,” the former champion explained. “That got infected. I went to the hospital and my knee was pretty swollen. Once I got in there they kept me in the hospital.”
While Jose Aldo is now on the mend, he says he’s still not sure if he’ll be able to fight at UFC 237 as planned.
“When I came to the hospital, I was only supposed to be there for the night, and then the antibiotics they gave me didn’t work,” he explained. “They waited another two days before they switched the antibiotics, which started to work. Obviously I thought about not being able to fight, and I still can’t say that I’m going to fight because I have to go to the doctor and get it reevaluated. We’re doing everything we can and hopefully I’ll get healed up.”
Jose Aldo is currently on a two-fight streak, having recently finished top featherweight contenders Jeremy Stephens and Renato Moicano, both via strikes.
UFC 237 goes down on May 11 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
