‘The Highlight’, who is known for his highlight showreel of first-round finishes, was able to deliver the same outcome to Cerrone in his last fight. The former sparring partners fought each other at UFC Vancouver on September 14th 2019. The 31-year old revealed that Cerrone knocked him out during a sparring session, but Gaethje got his payback as he finished Cowboy in the first round of the main event.

Prior to his UFC 246 bout against Conor McGregor, Cowboy hadn’t fought since his Gaethje collision.

In the 170-pound blockbuster event, the fighter’s immediately closed the distance. Conor McGregor pushed forward with a left hook that partially landed. In the clinch, the Irishman was able to execute some unusual shoulder strikes that inflicted serious damage to the face of Cowboy. ‘The Notorious’ subsequently landed a leg kick that significantly rocked his opponent. He rallied forward with an arsenal of devastating strikes, dropping his opponent to the ground and unloading before he sealed the TKO victory. McGregor claimed the main event victory over Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds of the first round.

Gaethje has been hot on the heels of McGregor since the Irishman announced his UFC return in 2019. He previously bashed the Mac for ducking the potential matchup and picking a fight with Cerrone instead.

Now, McGregor proved he is back better than ever, Gaethje is ready to add McGregor to his first-round finish hitlist.

He said on Twitter:

“That man is good. Bitch move to take that fight. Say my name
