Justin Gaethje is hoping to earn a rematch with Dustin Poirier after he beats Michael Chandler at UFC 268.

Gaethje is set to return to the Octagon in November in a highly-anticipated fight against Chandler. The winner of the fight will likely be in line for a title shot. For “The Highlight” he believes Poirier will KO Charles Oliveira to become the new champ and after he beats “Iron” it will set up their rematch.

“@DustinPoirier will KO @CharlesDoBronxz in December. After I break @MikeChandlerMMA on Nov 6th at any venue on the planet, I will get my rematch and you will see a replay of the best fight that happened on earth in 2018. That’s a year to look forward to,” Gaethje tweeted.

Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier headlined UFC on FOX 29 in April of 2018. In the lead-up to the fight, many were eager for it as on paper, it was going to be an all-action fight. Ultimately, the fight lived up to all the expectations as it was a back-and-forth brawl with both men hurting each other at numerous points. But, it was Poirier who got his hand raised by fourth-round TKO. The loss marked Gaethje’s second in a row but he then went on a four-fight winning streak. Poirier, meanwhile, won his next two including winning the interim title.

Although Gaethje hopes he can get the rematch with Poirier, it’s uncertain The Diamond would even fight again if he beats Oliveira. Poirier has spoken openly about the fact that if he wins UFC gold he would consider retiring as he has nothing left to offer. However, there would still be big money fights like Nate Diaz or the fourth fight against Conor Mcgregor out there for him. Yet, the Gaethje rematch is one that many fans hope will come to fruition.
