Max Holloway hints at summer showdown with Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor returned to Boston two nights ago to cheer on the Boston Bruins. On a previous visit to Boston, McGregor beat Max Holloway by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 26.
During his visit to ‘Beantown’, McGregor and Holloway got into it on Twitter discussing their fight back in 2013. And now, the current featherweight champion has called on McGregor to fight him at International Fight Week in July.
“I took my acl and shoved it up your arse that night kid. You don’t still have it by any chance? I’m lookin for it for years. Happy paddy’s day,” McGregor wrote on Twitter.
That got a quick response from Holloway who hinted at the possible fight.
“There you go, that’s the OG champ champ the world wants. I do have it. White belt bum 21 year old Max gave it to me to return to you in Dublin. Glad you found your confidence again in Boston. You can find your ACL again in Vegas in July,” Holloway responded.
Holloway is currently set to fight for the interim lightweight title against Dustin Poirier at UFC 236. If he wins that, it is expected he will fight Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisuted belt.
Although that is the plan, it appears he has his eyes on a rematch against McGregor next.
McGregor meanwhile, last fought at UFC 229, where he lost in the fourth-round to Nurmagomedov by submission.
Currently, McGregor is suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission and has stated he is in negotiations to return in July. If what Holloway is saying is true, that may very well be the next fight assuming Holloway beats Poirier on April 13.
