Cormier: Skill for skill, I'm better than Jon Jones

It’s been quite a bit of time since Jon Jones was formally reinstated by the UFC, however we still have yet to receive an official date for a rematch between Jones and UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier. While that hasn’t stopped the men from exchanging verbal jabs via social media, and even agreeing to a backroom fight, Cormier admits that Jones had the better performance in their last fight.

From how Yoel Romero’s stool-gate controversy was handled, to the UFC’s Reebok deal, and now even with ISIS, Kennedy never shy’s away from giving his honest thoughts. Apparently Kennedy, a US Special Forces member, has received several threats from notorious terrorist group ISIS, however he doesn’t seem too phased by the situation.

It was the fight Frankie Edgar so dearly wanted, but his dreams were shattered as news broke that Conor McGregor would be going up from the featherweight division to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the lightweight title in March. Edgar’s coach Mark Henry posted a “congratulations” to McGregor on his decision, and added in some nice jabs along the way. Henry captioned his post, “@thenotoriousmma and @coach_kavanagh unlike most of the 145 pd division that is upset you’re going up I’m not. I want to congratulate you on actually fighting men your own size. I mean walking 175-180 fighting at 155 takes a brave man. When you say 99 % of people couldn’t make the weight cut Conner makes to 145 your right, because 99 % of the fighters aren’t as scared as Conner to have to drop that much weight. Fear could will a man to do amazing things. Now why don’t you drop the security blanket and leave the 145 pd belt and go full blown BIG BOY. Congratulations again……. Almost. PS @frankieedgar walked 156 when he won 155 title.”

It was revealed via social media recently that our namesake BJ Penn will be training at the Jackson-Winkeljohn academy in Albuquerque New Mexico. The move was in anticipation of a potential fight with fellow UFC featherweight Nik Lentz, however in an open letter to MMAFighting, Lentz has laid out his terms and conditions for a fight with Penn.

It’s been over a decade since Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler fought at UFC 47 on April 2nd 2004, however both men are still at the top of the fight game nearly 12 years later. In their first meeting, Diaz picked up an impressive 2nd round KO win over Lawler, in just his 2nd UFC fight. While Lawler is currently the UFC welterweight champion, and Diaz is currently suspended until August 1st, UFC President Dana White is in favor of a rematch between the two.

It was a breath of fresh air after the Nevada State Athletic Commission came to a settlement on Nick Diaz’s suspension and fine on Tuesday. The commission who previously had a five-year suspension and $165,000 fine slapped on Diaz for testing positive for Marijuana in the state for the third time reduced the penalties on Tuesday. Diaz’s reduced suspension will allow him to compete again in August 2016 and his fine was reduced to $100,000.

Since it was announced that Conor McGregor would be moving up to lightweight at UFC 197 to fight Rafael dos Anjos for the UFC lightweight title, there’s been quite a bit of concern as to when, or if, Frankie Edgar would get his title shot. Edgar was told after his 1st round KO win over Chad Mendes, that he was the next contender at featherweight, however since then all signs have pointed to him being passed up once again.

Conor McGregor just booked his fist fight at lightweight against Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 197 on March 5th. The fight will not only be McGregor’s first at lightweight, it will be for the lightweight championship. While most champions who move up a division to pursue another championship belt have to vacate the title, that isn’t the case for ‘The Notorious’.
