Daniel Cormier is no longer the UFC heavyweight champion. After a year-long reign atop the division, he surrendered the title to the very man he won it from in July, 2018: Stipe Miocic. The pair met in the main event of UFC 241 in Anaheim, California, last Saturday night.

Tensions are currently running high in Hong Kong, as thousands of pro-democracy protesters have taken their grievances to the streets of the Chinese territory. Normally, this kind of news would not infiltrate the MMA bubble, but the UFC has plans to touch down in the neighboring Chinese city of Shenzhen on August 31, which makes it quite relevant. The situation in Hong Kong, which has underway since June, has resulted in hundreds of arrests, violent collisions between protesters and police, airport shutdowns, and a boosted military presence at the China-Hong Kong border. Given this strife, there has been widespread worry the UFC may have to cancel the upcoming UFC Shenzhen card.

Chael Sonnen believes a third fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier is now out of the question. This past Saturday night (Aug. 17), Cormier and Stipe Miocic collided in a rematch for the UFC heavyweight title at UFC 241. While Cormier knocked out Miocic back in July 2018, the Cleveland native got his revenge. Miocic stopped Cormier in the fourth round via TKO to reclaim the heavyweight gold. Miocic became just the second man to defeat Cormier in MMA competition.

UFC 241 has come and gone. In the main event of this stacked pay-per-view card, we saw Stipe Miocic challenge Daniel Cormier for the heavyweight title. The card also featured the return of the fan favorite Nate Diaz, who took on Anthony Pettis in the co-main event. In the end, Miocic TKO’d Cormier in the fourth round to reclaim the heavyweight title. Diaz, meanwhile, beat Pettis by unanimous decision to get back into the win column.

The disclosed salaries have been released for UFC 241, and new UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic led the way with a $750,000 payday. Miocic knocked out Daniel Cormier in the fourth round to win back the title he lost last year. He received no win bonus for the victory. The man he took the belt from, DC, banked $500,000 in the loss. In the co-main event, Nate Diaz took home $250,000 for his unanimous decision win over Anthony Pettis. There was no win bonus awarded to Diaz. “Showtime” took home $155,000 in the loss.
